I live in upstate now but cut my "fishing teeth" of the "ponds" of Eastern LI. Forge was one of my favorites.
If you want something different, go fish Wildwood lake just south of Riverhead. If I remember correctly, there is launching for a bigger boat on the east side of the lake. You won't be able to use your outboard there unless somethings changed, but you won't need it! I used to launch a 16.5 boat off a trailer there. (Also at Forge from the bay on the mid-south section of the lake) Wildwood should still have a great population of Bass! Some big fish too at least there used to be. Thats were I caught my biggest bass, a 9.9lber. It's also where I lost a nice matching Shimano rod and reel one evening! Got limp wristed on a cast! (I don't miss the old pistol grip rods!)
BTW, this time of year and through to spring for that matter, its a great time to start 'scouting" these lakes for access points. Thats how I did it.
There's a lot of great places to fish on the "Island of Long", from 3 nice lakes in Montauk (One has some smallies in it), to smallmouth on Shelter Island and nice largemouth from Laural lake in Mattituck. (Only carry in there at least back in the day.)
Anyway, good luck and if you get to Forge or any of the others, catch one for me!
