Renting a cottege on this lake in mid September with the GF. The cottege comes with a canoe so I'm planning to do some fishing while there. Just how much fishing, the new gf does not know yet

I'm not looking for any specific spots or areas but just trying to get an idea on what to expect as far as the structure in the lake and water clarity. I did some preliminary research and found a topo map and a couple old posts on here. Would be good to know what type of water clarity it has and whether it's weedy, rocky, sandy, has standing timber, etc.

I will post a follow up report after I get back.

Thanks -
Mike

here is a link to the DEP CONTOUR map: 350 acres, with a couple of 20 foot holes and a 30 foot hole....mean depth, 15 feet.....topo maps usually don't offer much for the fisherman.

with that kind of depth, it's bound to have some substantial weed growth, a good as place as any to start.

car top only.....should be fun!!

whoops.....just found out they do Copper sulfate treatments there on a regular basis to control the weed growth, so, I don't know what you will find....

it is a lake association, and most of these , nowadays, do chemical trmt. of weeds for the benefit of non-angling boating and swimming....

Lol, yes, I noticed the spelling error after posting but wasn't sure if the forum has an edit feature so I left it.

I was reading on the lake corporation site and they do treat it every 2 weeks in the summer for weeds apparently. Not sure if that would "control" the weed population or completely eliminate it. I have a kayak with a fish finder which I'll probably bring to get a better idea of what's going on there and when I want to just fish myself.

sometimes, even if the weeds are gone, they will tend to occupy a certain contour depth regardless, or, you might find that at a certain depth there could still be a foot or two or so of weeds that escaped the treatment: that little bit of cover is all they might need....

I was on a small water recently where they same thing happened, and there was a 5 or 6 feet "band" of maybe 2-3 foot weed growth in about the 11-13 foot depth....we just followed that contour all day long and were picking them off from the bottom...for as little cover as it was, it was the ONLY cover left....

I have fished this lake before but over 15 years ago...using a small bass hunter boat so I only fished a small area but we caught some really nice LM in shallow area's.. heard its got some nice Smallies as well. It used to have some club tournaments there and I think from my memory it used to take 16 or so pounds to win... I'm willing to bet you'll find some really good bass + some pesky pickerel and pike too... Have fun and good luck.

I was there this past weekend. It was extremely tough. I fished 3 days and only had one bite each day. First day hit and miss on topwater, second day had a hit on a paddle tail and wasn't able to hookup, last day finally got a smallmouth on a texas rig. Didn't see any other bass caught the entire time despite a decent number of fishing boats each day. Overheard one of the locals talk about how slow it's been there lately. Fished deep and shallow, all parts of the water column, but couldn't put anything together.

Not sure if the fishing just sucks there or I caught it at a bad time (maybe the lake was turning over?).

jeez... that sounds extremely tough... I've only fished it many years ago in the spring and did really well but seriously that was well over 15 years ago... I'd love to try it again though... I recently fished Burden (the big part) and that was really tough... I've tried there 3 times now and have struggled to find much of anything decent.. Its pretty deep and very clear - which is some of the things I like to fish. However it has this terrible growing grass / weed (which is long thin and windy) that is unfishable and seems to hold nothing. Plus there was floating grass everywhere (eel Grass) that killed a lot of presentations..

Mike: we are a long way from turnover....in order for that to happen, the bottom temperature of the deepest water has to EQUAL the surface temperature.....with most water temps still in the 70s, that isn't happening just yet. When it does happen, the waters mix together and the oxygen poor water mixing with the upper water temporarily makes the whole lake lower in oxygen. Until it normalizes, which it does, fishing is always poorer.

Fishing basically has been very difficult everywhere right now, so don't fret too much over it.

If they did copper sulfate tmts every 2 weeks throughout the summer, that could really affect the fishing.
