Last year it was finally reported that it we had Zebra Mussels in Amawalk reservoir Actually they were seen there in previous years, but not reported until last year. When speaking with DEP Biologist Michael Spada last year I told him it would only be a matter of time before they wound up in Muscoot & Croton, because they are downstream. He agreed with me . Yesterday, he told me they are now in Muscoot & Croton. The good news is they are good water filters. Bad news for the DEP if they clog their intakes. Little by little our reservoirs are following what has happened to waterways upstate. Will we eventually be the 1000 Islands South? Then I won`t have to travel 400 miles to get to my place up there.

The DEP welcomes any information you have on any invasive species found in the reservoirs. This link Invasive Species - DEP (nyc.gov) will take you to the page for reporting invasives in the NYC water supply system. Just because they're in the three terminal reservoirs in the Croton system doesn't mean we can't keep them out of upstream reservoirs! Clean, Drain, and Dry your gear before heading upstream and don't transfer or dump bait between reservoirs!
