buying up the joint big time!!! Gordon, Quantrill and now Vasquez who will be a free agent next year.....

Gordon throws the ball 100 miles and hour.....Quantrill is no slouch either......

Vasquez will win no less than 15 games with the yanks, and maybe even 20......

I have been concerned about the 1st base situation like many, apparently they feel confident that Giambi will be all the way back from this injury....

tell you one this though: they won't be hurting for having Sheffield in the lineup....since he basically replaces Garcia/Rivera tandem, that is a major upgrade even for them....add him to the buying spree, and they still have to overpay Andy Petitte......

did you know that Sheffield has never hit less than .300 or had less than 100 RBIs in any season where he got over 500 at bats? unfortunately, there were plenty of those as he fought off various injuries.....but when you look at his stats they are quite amazing....no question when he is playing a full season, he is one of baseball's elite hitters.....

I would have to say that the Yankees have made tremendous overall improvements, this beng to a team that won 103 games with the old squad......

sure wish the damn Mets organization would move in the same way.......

instead of just getting this Mat whatever UI guy, why not go for Vladmir Guererro and then tack on Millwood.....

Millwood , surprisingly, is only 28 years old and is a solid workhorse type pitcher, giving 200 plus inning on a consistent basis.......

Vasquez should win 18 games with a good team and you're right John Sheff's numbers are great if he stays healthy. The Al East will be very interesting next year. I like Millwood alot and wish the Sox would add him.

Hey Leigh...

I told you after the world series that Nicky would be gone.

Yes you did John...but you did not say we would get Havy Vasquez for him. I thought it was a pretty good trade considering that Sheffield will be replacing Juan Rivera. Thats a hell of an upgrade considering that Kareem Garcia is now the back up outfielder.
Vasquez should win 18 games with the Yanks!

Leigh...Vasquez is a below .500 pitcher. The Expos weren't that bad last year but he is not Schilling or Colon.....I don't think it was a good move. Weaver had a good year before the Yanks got him and look at him. Sheff....may not be a done deal. I think the Braves will likely retain him.

Well this is the thing about Weaver

He had a great season with the Tigers and the Yanks jumped on him. Now this Vasquez guy had a good year with Montreal and some Yankee fans are calling him a savior.....c'mon, he has not done a thing and they gave up way to much for him. What is the rotation? Mussina, Petitte (if the resign him), Contreras, Weaver, Vasquez? If it stays like that, it will be your worst in many years. You have to hope that Mussina and Petitte win every time out. Now, your team is a bit weaker both offensively and defensively in the field so, it is not unrealistic to say you might have some problems.
