At the last minute, I decided to meet Andrew Bornn up at Welch today for some afternoon fishing. When I got there, I could not believe the whitecaps that were out on the lake....crazy! The western shoreline was OK, but the eastern shore was getting pounded. As we launched, I gave us the kiss of death by saying, "We will be lucky to get one fish today".
However, we went right down to the brick pump house and started with cranks in the 46-47 degree water. I felt a nudge...mentioned to Andrew that I had a hit...kept reeling...we both saw a smallie chase my Poes crank to the boat. I put my lure back in the water and figure eighted like a musky fisherman, and Andrew and I both cracked up as I hooked the fish. Maybe we shouldn't have laughed so loud, because that was the first and last fish physically placed in the boat! I hooked another smallie in the belly that fell of boatside and Andrew and a smallie hit his Husky Jerk at the boat. He also had a couple of hits on a jig n pig...but that was it. It was completely impossible to maintain any type of boat control on most of the lake, thus making for a long afternoon. We also tried some "spooning" and a quick try at some drop-shotting to no avail.
Here is the picture of my smallie. Earthy...you will love it...another "Waldo" pic! LOL!
