I emptied my suburban yesterday and found one of the reasons I get 11 mpg.

Spare troll motor, spare deep cycle batt, 2 bank portable charger, emergency power pack, (2) 100' extension cords, 200 lbs tools, floor jack, tire iron, pump jack , roll on jack, extra seats for boat, extra life jackets, wood for chocks and blocking, tow straps, extra boat tie downs, spare rain gear, waders, truck and boat care products, spare fishing tackle, etc, etc,.......


I might miss all that weight tomorrow if this does not change to rain as predicted........

paul, that's what that big boy is for-you never know when your are gonna need some of that stuff-do you still have the extention ladders on the roof?

i'm starting to work on that paul,-still in the middle of unpacking and getting the new abode set up-it's been a long and tedious process-had to get my mother settled into her new condo also-this was a priority because of her age-all is going well and soon i hope to start fishing in a lot of the local canals-you can pull off the road and fish them-no one bothers you as long as you are not on private property-

300-400lbs. Missed it this am. Had to use 4WD to turn around in my driveway.

I need to add a 15' piece of chain so I can shackle a wheel to the frame of the trailer in case of trouble on the highway.

The 8.1 will do it! Do you think that perhaps you'll get another 2 or 3 MPG out of the weight reduction? Look into a K&N air filter set up. It will increase HP and decrease MPG.

Gasser. I am not a big K&N guy. If they were so good they would be OE. The weight reduction won't help a thing......adding a boat and trailer that weigh around 4000lbs only costs a mpg.

OUCH.......maybe just strip the whole thing down to the frame and tow the boat....like the Car and Driver Cadillac/ Pop. Mech. test in the 60's with that 500CI. That should increase gas mileage but you'll have to pick bugs out of your teeth.

The gas mileage was not a surprise. The vehicles primary duty is to tow and the 5.3's and 6'sL just don't get that much better mileage when towing.

Paul, Quite often OE has to be concerned with emissions and such and not nessacarily performance. There are some after market products that increase both performance and mileage. Take the power chip or synthetic oil for example.

The stuff came in very handy the last 2 years as I lived through the trailer from hell saga. I find having the stuff gives me confidence that no problems will arise and if they do I'd have half a chance at correcting them.

Honda's get around 30 mpg....

You may have a tough time going up hill though
