While fishing Lake Ronkonkoma this morning with Yar, I noticed something large swimming near the top of the water. I thought it was a gigantic snapping turtle and Ray thought it was a dog. We got closer to it and Ray yells, "It's a tiger musky!!"
We get in a little closer and sure enough there is a giant tiger musky swimming slowly along the suface with his head half out of the water and his mouth open showing us all his sharp teeth! He was doing this over at least ten feet of water in the middle of no where. We passed him once and came back and he was literally 2 feet from the boat with no intentions of spooking until we tried to net him. Ray tried to net him and he took off like a bat out of hell.
The strangest thing about this is that they stopped stocking tiger muskies in the lake in the early 90's. Nobody had caught one in at least three or four years maybe more. The lake was rumored to have none left. Well it was cool knowing that me and Ray may have seen the largest and one of the last tiger muskies ever in Lake Ronkonkoma.
Don't ask about the fishing! I got "RONKED"!LOL
Ray got a nice largemouth close to three pounds on a tube.
Any way the tiger musky surely made my day and now we all now about the "Ronk" Ness Monster!!!!!- Joe
