The lake is about 170 acres big...Most of the boating access is from the east shore on rt 6 in carmel and at the corner of rt 6 and rt 301 heading east...
The lake is basically bowl shaped with fewer irregularities than most NYC system lakes, and it gets to 100 + feet in the middle...The eastern shore on rt 6 has a good weedline almost the length of the lake and then it tapers off into an abyss as you head out to the lake proper...
On the rear, western shore, it is mostly harder gravel, sandier bottom with few and far between laydowns...Clearer water back there, but the lake does not support any SMB to speak of...In the NW corner there is a small tributary, and I mean small...That area looks like the best area, but its a silt bottom and very shallow...I pulled a few out of there...The point just prior to that and the following shoreline were the best looking areas to me...The NE corner has a gradual taper and a more sizeable, amorphous weedbed worth spending some time on in the spring, IMHO...Thats where most shorefisherman work their stuff though, when they can reach the good water before the weeds overgrow the area...
This lake was suppose to be "some bass water" way back in the "Local Yokul Jack Stewart's Hey Day"...But it really only gets the attention of trout fisherman lately as their are legendary lakers still coming out of there, so I here...It is stocked annually...
The lake is closed to new boats to date, as it is small and crowded on shore, but not pressured on the water...Last season, or the season before, they clipped and confiscated a few boats from there and loosened up 10 new spots...I took one spot...My boat is in between area #2 at rt 6 and rt 301 and area # 3 fully on rt 6...
I went there once this season, mid afternoon, very windy, dog day of summer...A newbie friend of mine that doesn't really fish and I caught nothing on the livebait we drifted, but had 10 lmb between us with 2 or 3 porkers in the mix of 3+ lbs on soft plastics...
Another report from a fisherman friend of mine who slung a few casts in there this spring and early summer, were favorable to excellent on several outings...No monsters, but good fish and some numbers...
You need a NYC permit (or your badge i guess) (lol)...But if you have that, I can get you on in my boat...Its a 12 ' regular width Grumman jon ...Probably looking to sell it at the end of the season...But I will reserve the spot for another boat, I hope...

Oh, the lake is one of the smaller lakes in the whole NYC system and certainly one of the very smallest East of Hudson here in the south...But guess what, it ain't the smallest...Gilead and Diverting are both smaller at about 120 acres...The mammoth rezzies are Croton at 2300 acres and Kensico at 2100 acres...Unless you go up north to Big Ashokan at 8000+ acres...
