My club (WRRBM) is thinking about holding our anual 2 Day Summer Classic up at Saratoga Lake. We'll probably launch from the State Launch. It's going to be held sometime late July. I know it's peak season up there with the Ponies running but I am able to find lodging if I book now. Can anyone reccomend a place to stay that will accomadate about 15 boats w/ trailers - 10 or so rooms with dbl beds not much more than $100 per night. I'ld like to find a place within 15 - 20 miles if possible. I found plenty of places 30 miles away. I would like to get closer. Any help greatly appreciated.

My club stayed at a couple of places last year. We didn't find much very close to the lake. Post Road Lodge (one exit away) was the better of the two places we used. I think they have a website. The rooms are decent at best and the parking was less than adequate (no way 15 boats).

From what we experienced the last two years I'd suggest taking the 30 mile drive.

Been there a few times. Not much close to the lake. Most is on route 9 which is one exit down or through the town of Saratoga Springs. Many places are small or very upscalish. To have drive up rooms to handle 15 boats, the best bet might be the Turf N Spa in town. Another place, not the Marriott Marquis though is the Top Hill Motel. There is a best western right acroos the street for spillover if necessary called Mayfair farms I think.

In either case, your best bet is to fish when the racetrack is closed or is off season. The room rates go way down to $55-$65 a night instead of over $100. My club usually fishes up there in early-mid September.

Good Luck.

Check out hotels in Clifton Park, right off exit 9 on the Northway. Several big chain hotels have opened up in that area in the past year and from exit 9 to Saratoga Lake is probably about 17-18 miles. They all have sizable parking lots and easy access to the Northway. Around track season in Saratoga, all the lodging rates increase at least $50-75.

It's tough to find something up there.

I've been looking for a house to rent on Saratoga for a week for only 6 guys and 3 bass boats. The cheapest house I can find while researching the internet is around $1300 for a week. And that's not even a place on the lake. I would love to fish there for a week and have our annual 2-day top 6 tourney...but it doesn't appear to be financially possible. If anyone does have anything they care to recommend...I would also appreciate the info. Thanks alot...Mark

As stated in another post, stay away during racing season!!!

Everything in the area is crowded and more expensive.

This coming year it will run from July 28th through September 6th.

One motel that we stay at is The Birches Motel.

15 boats might be a stretch for them, but give it a shot.

It’s an older motel, but it’s clean, secure and friendly.

It’s about 3 or 4 miles north of Saratoga (Exit 15 off I-87)

The Birches Motel
829 Saratoga Road
Wilton, NY 12831

The proprietors are a nice couple named Charlie & Pam

JSantha,

I'd love to be able to offer your club accomodations at "Chez Zuke", but 15 boats would probably get the neighbors in a tizzy.....You'd have to park on their lawns.

fish-Eye might have something at "The Birches" but it is pretty small.

Best of luck.

Zuke.

Oops, didn't see this thread, responded with a longwinded post in the other one, but basically, the gist was, there's places all over that can handle it, within a short drive. Just look at a map and search all the local towns.

And if you're coming in August, swing by the track, and look for the big idiot with the big beer and all the losing betslips, that'll be me.

I'll talk to a couple of friends that rent out houses in the area, see if they can help you out. I know the prices would be much better (they'll cut you a break for me-prob. 'round 750), but I'll have to see if there's one available large enough, and with enough parking for ya.. Give me a week or 2, I gotta call a few people..
