Thank you that's very helpful but also disappointing you can't fish under the Taconic Bridges anymore? I was under the impression more of the no fish zone on the mid croton side was also to be opened up instead we have less!

WHY have you NOW restricted the area under the Taconic Bridges? Is there any rational reason? Ditto with the restriction at the old Putnam RR Bridge. WHY? 4 years ago commissioner Emily Lloyd gave the OK for the area from the Putnam RR bridge to the blinking traffic light at the intersection of 118 & 129 to be open to fishing. So why are YOU going back on that? The Hydrilla that is now in many areas of Croton reservoir will spread regardless of how many areas you close. The power boats that the DEP Police, wildlife division & the water testers continually run & cut up the Hydrilla & spread it. Then you have the birds & fish that spread it. So closing more water to recreational fisherman does absolutely nothing to help the DEP. It actually makes the reservoirs LESS SAFE as you will now not have fishermen there to act as your eyes & ears. A BAD decision for everybody.

Hi everyone, attached are maps for Kensico and New Croton to better show the restricted areas. We will try and get some markers on Kensico for those restricted areas.
The area along the Southwest shoreline opposite KE 10 is restricting far more than 500 feet.
I second this one.... basically looks like a solid 1/4 mile more is marked off opposite KE10 than has ever been noted or marked before....

I'm hoping this is just a mistake when the map was made and it should have zoned off to the point further SW opposite the DEP boat area.... From fishing this area for years and even discussing the "allowable areas" in that portion of the reservoir with the DEP guys that check permits on the water - the "no fish zone" started at the point across from DEP docks (and obviously the DEP area and South of that). I've had my permit checked in this area and the guys in the boat had NO issue with us there provided we stayed east of the point and didn't go back near the pump/water collection buildings - which you can't (or shouldn't) because there are already buoys there. I'd think if it was a problem they would have told me to get out of there.

I've also noticed that "Dark Hollow" is now back to being off limits... I totally understand marking off areas of Webers Cover with the building in that cove... but the whole section before it as well???

Can I please ask for some explanation of why so much more has been zoned off? And to be clear - I'm very appreciative of some sort of formal zoning being provided to avoid any unnecessary issues between anglers and the DEP guys doing there job - but this Kensico map seems like was redrawn marking off alot more territory without reason.

Guys, Your talking to NYC. Common sense rarely applies. Nobody wants to rock the boat, & do the right thing. Unfortunately Commissioner Emily Lloyd is no longer the Commissioner. I have no knowledge of the New Commissioner, so maybe he will be open to reason. NOBODY wants a security or a hazardous issue, but the new boundaries make no sense. There was never a problem with the old boundaries. They just needed to be marked. As the traditional saying goes: "Go Fight City Hall !!"

Can you explain why that huge section in the middle of New Croton is closed please?
Because Emily LLoyd the past commissioner retired, & the current crop of DEP officials just want what they want without any reason. And you can`t fix stupid. They want us to be their eyes & ears when it comes to the Reservoir system & they treat recreational users like crap. That`s the way it was before an intelligentl thinking Emily Lloyd became commissioner & now that she is gone, we are back to the dark ages of the DEP.
Remember. these are the people who have us steam clean our boats to keep contaminants out out of the Reservoirs. Then they allow subcontractors to come in without steam cleaning power boats. The probable result is the Hydirlla in Croton Reservoir & probably elsewhere. Of course now that the Cow has left the barn, all subcontractors have to have their boats steam cleaned before entering the Reservoirs. Brilliant!! Too bad Emily Lloyd is not still in charge. Heads would be coming off everywhere. Very frustrating.
Oh yeah, the NEW theory on why Amalwalk Reservoir is low every year now, is that the soil is contaminated around the lake. I can guess why that is. All the new homes that have come up on Lake road since the 1990`s. Septics & lawn care are helping the problem. Then the new homes being built on the Northwest corner of the Reservoir can`t help anything. So what is the DEP doing? Reducing our fishing access. Ronnie & I asked for a meeting with the DEP about 1 year ago to discuss all this stuff. The DEP police & the DEP officials(hopefully) would be there. Instead they decided on what they decided in-house. So, the answer to your question Gregg is as always: BECAUSE!!

yes, Marty, I agree, a hopeless situation...we have to make the best of it we can....

for all of us lazy old timers, the lure of just having a boat tied to a tree without having to transport it, will keep us fishing these failing waters....

but for anyone young and with energy, do your best to have transportable boating, large or small, so that you can take advantage of the many and varied small to large waters BESIDES the RES waters........

BTW, GREGG, you mentioned the Taconic Bridges, but have you noticed that they now have totally restricted Dark Hollow at the Rye Lake area? a great area for laydowns, now once again, off limits to fishing, and for no ascernable purpose whatsoever.....

because we, the fishing community, are less than zero: we are , to them, at best, an annoyance.....

better we should be starting hate rallies, or plowing vans into innocent people, but no, we are simply sportsmen taking advantage of a wonderful natural resource, and so, as such, we are discarded as having any significance in this society.
