Im new to the reservoirs. I usually only get out during the summer months however I have been ice fishing down on lake Gilead a few times.. i mainly fish the rondout and neversink. This past spring i was told i wasnt allowed to fish them until april 1 ..i thought and by wording of the fishing resource magazine(pic below) it only dictates that "open season" for trout/walleye and asterix denotes that state wide regulations apply to species not listed in the table..im a bass fisherman..i catch and release always are these northern reservoirs in fact closed off to recreation anytime before April 1 even if there is no ice on that body of water ? I have tried to read a few signs around the lakes and nowhere did i see it say waters closed from such time. The magazine is misleading unless im reading it wrong but bass fishing is legal all year or am i wrong?.
The only thing i can find is the rio res. Has no fishing from dec.1-march 31..no other body of water has such a restriction. If they are infact closed off then i feel it should be stated as such in the book they give you..
Any Clarification would be thankful

pg 14. Section 16-06 of the NYC DEP Recreation Rules & Access Permits states in section (D)

(d) Season. On the Amawalk, Bog Brook, Boyds Corner, Cross River, Croton Falls, Diverting,East Branch, Kensico, Middle Branch, Muscoot, New Croton, Titicus, and West Branch Reservoirs, and on Lake Gilead and Lake Gleneida, boats with valid Boat Tags may be placed onthe water during any ice free period. On all other New York City Reservoirs, boats with valid Boat Tags may be placed on the water between April 1st and November 30th of each year during any ice free period.

No one is allowed to put a boat on west of hudson waters December thru March. DEP could make it clearer by posting signs up at the WOH reservoirs.

Thats a better clarification than it states in this magazine..however i was fishing from shore not in a boat. Is there a provision for that?...
long story short-
I was given a warning saying that i could be considered fishing out of season but the officer couldnt site which rule i was breaking,(said he couldnt find the actual infraction code or what have you). i had assumed fishing from shore was allowed at the time i was doing so..i wasnt targeting species out of season as a bass fisherman i can fish all year for bass (catch and release mind you).. is it because it is mainly a trout thing..cause of the potential to hook one out of season i was told this?

In regards to WOH, I am under the impression you can shore fish December-March, but ice fishing is prohibited at all times.
