Rain/Snow gear!!!

I am a big fellow (to say the least). I am a solid 4x now (lost 82 pounds). I had a club tournament this past weekend, and found out that Carhearts and several layers of clothes is not rainproof. So would I need to get a 5x or 6x to fit all my layers?

It was only about 45, poured for the first 2 hours of the tournament. It also got windy towards the middle/end of the day. I can't tell you how cold/wet I was. I will never go through that again.......

So I guess I need to know is what kind of raingear is decent.
Also what kind of gear for the cold should I have have and can it be waterproof to? And there is also an ongoing debate reguarding gloves (Rag, Rubber,...ect).
Finally cost is kind of a issue. So I need the best option for cheap.

i am 5'8" and 195 -- yeah a little chunky. i wear a 3x to fit over carhartt coveralls and jacket.. alpine with liner. go to work n gear or bring your coveralls and jacket to the shop w you. don't mess around as this is creature comfort we are talking about here. get a decent long lasting set of rain gear. remember a good set of rain gear breathes and blocks wind too. i dress a little lighter under rain gear. my raingear was all assigned to me, so i can't give you cost/brand advice sorry. Ground Zero and Staten Island Landfill taught me alot about decent cold weather and rain gear.

if you ever hit the water in carhartt and raingear (god forbid) you better have flotation devices attached!! i have seen it firsthand... you will imitate a 100lb boulder and go right down!! be careful.

Those conditions call for rubba! Skip the G-tex and save your budget; Grundens make the best rubba. Look for neoprene inside the sleaves......stops the water from running down to your pits when you raise your arms.

Grundens
Chwck out the Cabelas gear. They have some really good stuff.

HUH? Cut it down and make a rain suit? Is that what you were getting at???

C'Mon....a fat joke???

How original!!!

"Sheesh"
SORRY. I forgot this place got so sensitive.
You're a friggin 4x for God's sake. Didn't you think it was a little funny?

To answer your question, both BPS Xtreme gear and the Cabelas Guide gear are both excellent choises. They are water tight, breathable & last a long time.

Agian, sorry for rubbing you the wrong way.

I guess I must also apologize

I thought it was funny too!
Don't let these guys talk you into G tex. A 2 hour rainstorm will be about 4 times what an ordinary G-Tex suit will stay dry through. There are various grades of G-Tex and the version known as "extreme" is only guareenteed to stay dry for an hour in a downpour.
Funny how?

It was a little funny.....But, fat jokes are easy and old!!!

By the way.....Cabelas and Bass Pros usually only go up to 3x. As it is looks like.....Grudens is the best so far but I am still looking.

And yes I am a 4x....Used to be a 6x.....Still losing.......And the fact that you called me a "Friggin 4x for Gods Sake" seems to me that you have a problem with big people.....But, I guess that is another "Springer Show".

And by the way......

Apology accepted!!!

LOLOL......Thanks I needed that!!!!

Hey Paul M!!!......

Question for you......

Where did you get your Grudens from???
And the fact that you called me a "Friggin 4x for Gods Sake" seems to me that you have a problem with big people.....
Come on. Is this the Fricken "mommy Never Loved Me" message board. I said I'm sorry. I consider the people here "fishing Buddies". So I liken it to being out on the water and BS'n. If you & me were fishing and you asked me about rain gear and you happen to be 4x I would have given you the same answer. And laughed. Don't be like that. I didn't mean anything personal.
Hey, I don't get mad when the "slow kid" posts fabricated gay pictures of me.

LOL!!!!
Nick, the bottom image on your post isn't working. Is it the guy fighting a bass? I think I saw it before but it stopped running.
You might want to check out Helly Hansen. This is usually the prefered brand of professional fisherman. You know--the guys like in "The Perfect Storm" I dont know how comfortable they are. but they will keep you dry. Bass Rat dont use no rain gear. He likes "getting wet". Just ask any Brazilian.

Bass Rat--stop lurking around the boards in "invisable mode"
As far as rain gear I agree Helly Hansen is the way to go. Definetly will keep you dry. They have a tendency to be a little stiff. Especially when they get cold but they sure are waterproof.
Grundens and Helly Hanson are pretty much the same. All rubber, very dry, not very expensive (compared to some of those fancy suits anyway) and not very comfortable. The heavy rubber is somewhat restrictive for casting and such.
raingear

Check out Sierra Trading Post if quality and cost is an issue. They often get 2nds, overstock, etc and have decent prices on great gear. I am not sure about the extent on size availability but it is worth a look.
