[Mr. Micropterus]

A friend of mine called me from the Squantz Pond launch at Candlewood today to tell me it was plowed and asked me to go out with him tommorow for some cold water smallies. I, of course, agreed because I never turn down the chance to go fishing. Tommorow I will be bass fishing and later in the week I may be ice fishing!

My ice gear is already out, organized, and ready to go and my bass gear was "winterized" a few weeks ago. My tipups are ready and the auger is sharp, but how could I pass a chance to go bassin'. I just respolled my tube and jiggin' spoon rods and I am ready to get some smallies.

The weather is supposed to be nice, with temps up around 50! December 23rd and still open water fishing......

I will let you guys know how I did.

I forgot about this post. How did you do? I really enjoy late season bassin and was curious to see how Candy would turn out for you

Sorry Guys, I forgot about this post too. Going out a few days before Christmas was awesome! Weather was perfect at around 45degrees and sunny. We were fishing out of a small boat and trolling motor, but that was all we needed because for the better part of the day there was not a ripple on the lake!!

We were limited to where we went because of the small boat so we only fished the mouth of Squantz cove, the mouth of the Sherman arm (most of the day), and the mouth of the New Milford arm. No bass were caught but a jumbo perch and a few nice browns were caught on hair jigs. We also tubed and jigged a spoon for a while to no avail.

There was some ice in Squantz cove and the small cove just outside of Squantz. We went ice ramming with the boat and I was thinking of breaking out the topwater frog to drag it across the mats .

If we had a little bigger boat we would have definatly been out on the humps blading and tubing but being out on the lake was a treat in itself. Only us, the fish, some ice, and a few duck hunters out there.

I'm looking foward to hitting Candy in early spring with hair and tubes
