as David Wright pulled up lame last night in the Met's game, clutching his hammy, I could only think of Derek Jeter last year, and how he had continued to play on that ankle until it just gave way...

David had "tweaked" his hammy at the beginning of the week, but insisted on playing every day...

on a team that is so challenged offensively, he has had a wonderful season of steadiness: nothing spectacular, but for the most part, free from the normal ups and downs of players....

he is the Met's version of Jeter: the face and spirit of the franchise...and similar to Jeter, their stubborness to give in to necessary rest has now hit him hard.....

The Mets have been playing Decent baseball for all of 2 months now, but if he is out for any extended period of time, this will truly hurt them....

If you remembered John, Ken Griffey Jr. was the same way. An amazing player whose productivity diminished gradually due to injuries.
A first ballot H.F. in my opinion.
Just imagine the numbers he would have put up if he was on PEDs.
Would have extended his career a lot longer and increased his amazing stats!
