Ronnie & I just talked to Paul Lenz & Tom Davidock of the NYCDEP, & we were able to make some corrections on the Croton Reservoir restricted area maps. New maps will be released as soon as the corrections are made. A summary of those corrections are as follows.
1. The area NE of boat area #22 will no longer be restricted other than the usual 500 ft. from the Muscoot Dam.
2. The area between the Taconic Bridges hopefully will not be restricted following further talks with the NYCDEP Police. The Police thought that it was always restricted & I think I have proven to them that is incorrect. If they agree, it will be re-opened.
3, The area west of the Old Putnam RR Bridge(bicycle path) will remain restricted for the time being. A study is underway to try to control the Hydrilla growth in that area. If successful, that area will open to rt`s 129 & 118.
All the other Reservoirs are basically the same as always except for Kensico. That means do not go 500 ft from a DEP structure. That has always been the rule. Not always marked, but always the rule.
4. As to Kensico, the new restrictions apply for security reasons.
Signs will be put up marking the restricted areas ASAP. ASAP means As Soon As funding for it is aPproved. Until then, try your best to follow the maps.

signs are certainly not cheap, but neither is all the gas they waste cruising around firing guns at the geese....

it's amazing how some of the most basic things are overlooked or require inordinate types of approval.....then you read these stories in the newspapers where politicians use various gov't funds for private things....but a simple thing like signage requires endless red tape for approval.

probably part of the delay is finding a company that will give the proper kickback for the contract of making the signs!

So Marty - that means the SW corner of Kensico is now completely restricted across that diagonal (shown on the map) entirely cutting off access to the shoreline/point nearest to the DEP boat areas? Safe to assume that will never be opened up again? That Sucks.

Yes, that sucks, but it`s better than some terrorist attacking the intakes. Actually, the biggest security concern has to be the Westchester Airport.
Maybe they have something in place to control that. I am not privy to that.

Thanks for update... I guess one benefit is it shortens my rowing time now!!! LOL!!

It is funny they think a line of buoys and some signs will stop terrorists... maybe they should put those out in front of airports and forget this scanning non-sense!! LOL!!
