My buddy Angelo and I fished Muscoot today after a 3 week hiatus. The day started out cloudy with water temps holding steady at 59 degrees. We started with topwater around a submerged island with no success....we then moved to a weed flat close to the channel break with no results....next we fished some very productive shorline structure but were foiled again.
As frustration set in, it started to rain (steady) for the next 3 hours, it was getting cold, wet and miserable....it was time for a new strategy. There was one final place that I was sure would hold fish....the back of the coves....I was correct !!!
By the time we finished with them, we boated 28 bass and 5 picks. There were no monsters but 12 of the bass were about 2 1/2 lbs. and the rest ranged between 1 and 1 1/2 lbs. All the fish were caught on a combination of tubes, slug-go and senkos but the two most productive lures were a spinnerbait and a lipless crankbait.
Fishing Muscoot today was a good choice since some of the other reservoirs have been unusually slow for this time of the year. Muscoot is my refuge when I need to get back on track and catch a limit of fish......no disappointments today !!!
