Ok, its not a thinking man's movie. The ending could've been better ( im not telling) , and it has a couple of corny lines. It's almost close to Braveheart.

But IMHO, Tom Cruise makes a good down in the dumps Civil War officer, who fights together with the Samurai against the Japanese empire. There is no overacting ( remember A Few Good Men ?) from Cruise, and Ken Watanabe as the chief Samurai is excellent, some critics think he deserves an Oscar nod.

The movie is excellent, cinematography wise, cherry blossoms and all. I loved the winter scene and you gotta wonder how those people kept warm under those Kimonos. A closeup look at the battle armor reveals fleece, ala Old Navy...LOL

And of course, the movie is all $10 worthy , courtesy of the battle scenes. The action is thrilling, bloody, but not gory. The clangs of the swords magnified on the big screen. The part where the Japanese soldiers waiting for the samurai to come out from the forest under a cloak of mist, reminded me of Charlie Sheen in Platoon.

Check it out guys and gals....and oh....this is no Elf....LOL
