Mark (basseracci) and I fished Croton for the last time today as the season officially came to a close.

We planned on fishing the main lake as we successfully did a couple of days ago BUT due to the relentless W~I~N~D it was virtually impossible to position the boat and fish effectively.

To sum it up, I managed one 3.13 lb. smallmouth and that was it. We had a very good outing a couple of days ago and we were hoping for a repeat performance….oh well !!!

We did manage to run into Andrew today. We spent a good portion of the afternoon talking and sharing some of the secrets of Croton. Andrew is a great guy and we look forward to getting together and tear them apart in the spring.

Hey Andrew….come to think of it, you were fishing on my spots and probably caught all the fish (lol) !!! :D

Here's the 3.13 pound Smallmouth.

Can't wait till the spring........

Stalker,
Nice smallie! I was out for about two hours, unable to get much of a feel for the jig, even casting in the direction of the drift. Homey doesn't like to throw an anchor! After casting my black jig off when it snagged one of my rod tips on the underhanded cast, I figured I'd throw the brown jig, tied on the other flip stick. First cast, I got my one bite, just as the wind died for a moment, and set the hook into a 4.7 LM! As I blew another 50 yards while bringing that one in, I figured I should be happy with my last good reservoir fish for the year, and get to some of my honeydo list. Great season!

Last Day on Res

Hey Ronnie and Mark, great meeting you guys ,and sharing fishing stories. We definitely have alot in common about fishing and our love of Croton and other Res. We have to get together next season . Spent almost all day out yesterday seeing I had my own private rower (laugh). Caught 7 lm on jig and pigs except 2 on husky jerk.Had to fish real slow but several fish hit with a good bump. Also caught a bunch of crappie in 40 -50 ft on silver buddy. Most I think died because they came up from deep toofast. Were lm down there also but coudn't get them to bite.Sorry I didn't see you Chris out there but got your message and I'll call you and would love to get out there with you next season. What another great season. The only good thing about the season ending and winter coming on us is the thought of what lies ahead in three to four months . Pespawn Smallies . Thanks everybody. That was exactly the problem that Mark and I encountered. I'm certain the fish were there but due to the high winds we were not able to present our baits properly to entice strikes.

We wanted to throw the anchor but that was not a viable option due to the depth. The best choice on this day would have been to use a windsock.

I must admit that Mark and I were very jealous watching your private rower keeping you in position to fish. That was very cool, kind of like having a remote control trolling motor (lol) ! :D

guys: it's not just the depth problem with an anchor on the reservoirs.....in this cold water period, pulling a rope up hand over hand now becomes an excercise in torture.......and one your hands or feet get cold, you are doomed......40 degree water will have that effect on your hands....

Well,

It was a slow day fishing but it was a great closing, to a great season...As usual Ronnie and i shared a beautiful day out in the Croton setting...He managed a real nice smallie that put on a nice show for us...Hit a pretty big jig too...I on the other hand, didn't feel a bite all day...But I had good sandwiches, so the day wasn't a total loss... lol

Anyway, we got to meet Andrew (Footballs) and his lovely wife "Minn Kota"...From the sound of it, his personal rower really served him well as he got to molest several good fish and some pannies...They looked like a real "co-ed pro team", all clad in their matching winter-wear...Very nice touch... We stopped to talk to them for a little while and there was an immediate and clear consensus among us that, "anybody who's anybody loves to fish Croton"...It certainly was nice talking to both of you...Andrew, hopefully we will fish together next season or have some kinda "Croton pow-wow" over there in "my spot"...From the sounds of it ,"you have more spots than a leopard"...lol...That can only be good for me...

Ronnie, a pleasure fishing with you as always...But, don't call me until March...lol...

Happy Endings

Mark D

Andrew, check your PMs...
