I have to request you delete these nonsensical posts by Jabass due to the spamming nature of most of them and for the fact that most of us are dumber for having to read them. I'm sorry, but I've lost my patience for this kind of thing which seems to happen about once or twice every 6 months.

Jabass, In a prior post you claimed you could get people sponsored, Pretty big words for a 14yr old. Maybe you did it to impress people, Maybe your Dad owns Garcia, I don't know and don't care but, one thing you should not do on this board is sing it if you can't bring it. Someone will call you on it, you'll be proven wrong and then you will never be taken seriously again. Unfortunately I think this may have already occured.
Now, I'm not making fun of you but your grammar and spelling is horrible, Wandy makes a great point about knowing how to talk to people if you want to get sponsored and become a pro. I own my own tackle company and get approached for sponsorships regularly. If I got a resume that was filled with errors or came off cocky, I wouldn't give it a second look. Garbage!
Look at almost all of the Pro's you see out there today....they are humble guys who mostly give their credit to God. . There are Pro's on this board, tackle shop owners, manufacturers, guys who can catch fish in a mud puddle at the end of their driveway etc. nobody is impressed by someone who comes out of nowhere and makes claims that seem a little far fetched.....especially in their first post on the site. So chill out a bit. You might learn something.

"I bet i have caught a bigger fish than most of you

James-forever searching my dream"

That may be so but we all graduated High School and by the looks of it, you'll have your hands full and won't be doing much fishing.....sorry couldn't resist.

Hope fully, this 'kid' is just being, well, a kid. Immature and raw. I am willing to give JaBass the benefit of the doubt.

On the other hand, this could be someone's idea of a prank. If it is, it is damn FUNNY!.....

I suggest ignoring Jabass posts ........until he or she learns the right way......

Hey John,
I cant beleive that you deleted Jabass' posts. LOL
I was going to answer his last post but it took me too long to figure out what he actually said in it. Sad state of affairs that the Buffalo school system must be in.

Joe P has been hanging out with me alot....cant you tell? LOL

dissappointed

Hi John,

I am dissappointed that jabass threads were deleted. On a national scale we are constantly fighting our civil rights and freedom of speech being one of them. This is not a paid forum. If you don't like what jabass said tell him. You could actually have made a difference for everyone by leaving the threads up with the appropriate responses by demonstrating what is right/wrong behavior. The deletion makes me (personally) uncomfortable. I hope this is an isolated incident. So what if he rubbed people the wrong way. Delete the posts about the sales. That breaks the rules. But the recent post does not and would have been a great lesson. Our youth feels further and further alienated, disaffected and distrustful and we just deleted him with a keystroke.

Rules are rules...

They are there for a reason and John is the ENFORCER...

The rest of us are just really "contributing deputies"...

This is a Bass Fishing Forum like no other...It is kept very tight and for the most part, in my opinion, comparatively unbiased and objective without reckless recommendations from sponsored fisherman or those with special interests...

Adding other sponsors is certainly an ongoing discussion, but until that time, this is how it is...I personally prefer this kind of "cyber-intimacy" that we have here...

Besides, this is a bass fishing site and not the "Big Brother's of America"...The young ones gotta work that "juvey shit" out before they get here...

wandy!

NYBASS is not a democratic endevour... it's not an organization or a club or a society or any other type of organized group... it is for all intents and purposes a message board on the internet about bass fishing that is run by JohnG... and as you know, john moderates the forums in a fairly subjective way at times... yes, there are guidelines, but in the end john gets to decide what is deleted or not... why??!!?... because somehow he's been able to cultivate one of the most friendly and informative bass fishing sites on the internet and most of the members appreciate and respect that!...i'm not saying that you don't, i'm just trying to give you some insight.... yeah, we all disagree with him from time to time, including myself, but that's part of the territory... think of the place as johnG's house; and he's been kind enough to invite everyone over to chat about fishing... and think of the so called "staff" as john's buds who help him out...

14 year olds are smarter than you think... i doubt that being deleted at NYBASS.com will have a negative effect on that young man... if anything it's probably a positive.

anyway, please don't get too worked up about this... the internet is like the wild west and kids today know that more than anyone... the fact that this site is so civil, day in and day out, is amazing when you think about it.

big brother

I agree that rules are rules. Rules when arbitrarily enforced is no longer part of the democratic right that we live by and in this case is known as censorship and becomes Big Brother.

In my reading of the forum rules many would be guilty of having their threads censored by engaging in mean spirited behaviour or personal attacks. Why are they permitted to remain and not Jabass? Is it jabass did not wait to show his true colors due to the innocence of youth and did not have years under his belt to hide his anger and vitriole?

This is an open forum about bass fishing and not a paid forum. The only rule jabass broke is the selling of items as a non sponsor. Bad spelling and personal attacks are pretty much the norm here so why does he get singled out. Want to see personal attacks and misspelling on a grand scale read the thread about lead ban. This is an open community and WE are the contributing deputies. Jabass would definately have gotten an earful from all of us.

This is worth getting worked up over just as other issues are worth getting worked up over. If not this then what. Can I request that when i receive a personal attack that that members threads be deleted? If this really is an open friendly forum than keep the kid here and continue to educate him. It is anger and mean spirited to blackball him.

Foul. Do over.

Adulthood !!!

I guess that the skill of recognizing friendly banter Vs actual harsh criticism or insult is something that has to be learned...I learned it in becoming an adult...

A contributing factor to using that skill here at NYbass, is that I am a regular participant here on the boards and not just a serendipitous visitor...So I have somewhat of a feel for the pulse of the boards and their members...Given, that might be hard for a newbie or an "infrequent" to recognize, but again, that's how it is...

I personally didn't speak critically of the young man's spelling...That would defin"ITELY" be cruel of me WANDY...But I stand by everything else I said and i wasn't being specific...I feel that way about anyone who would "talk shit"...I hope your beef is not with me and I admire your passion and righteousness for taking a stand...But I am "for" some kind of reasonable and controlled form of Censorship...Someone has to "steer the bus"...And there will always be some grey area that requires a human being to use judgement...I am not one to "shine ass", but John hasn't done me wrong yet here on the board...And yes, a number of my posts have been deleted in the past...

Duhdefinitely

No my beef is with censorship not being universal and censorship in general. It is undemocratic and an arbitrary excOrcise of power. If we want our youth to grow as tolerant adults than we just showed our intollerance.

Thanks for the correction. I sometimes screw up i's before e's as well.

Very few of us should brag about our spelling and grammer skills, myself included. It's not my call but I would have left it as an example of how not to act and write. We would have let the young man(How old he really is ?)know his mistakes and he would have learned from them hope fully. God knows what I would have done with the net when I was 14.

being 14

I was 14 once. Full of piss and vinegar and ready to conquer something. I had many passions but little guidance and direction. I was always hoping for a 'mentor'. Someone to take me under his wings, show me the ropes, etc. How different life might have been. I am constantly trying to bring along those that are coming ahead of me. It elevates my profession and allows me to give back a little. Let's not give up on people yet. We all have lessons to learn and give.

Censorship

I guess we will never know how old the fellow was, meaning was he just a kid with Walter Mitty dreams, or was he being mean spirited. It would be a shame to blackball him out if someone could have sort of taken him under their wing and brought him around to being a good board member. I do know the need for censorship though! I was a bowhunter for 25 plus years, ate, slept and thought bowhunting 24 hours a day, 365 days a years. Five or six years back I started visiting a bowsite on the internet. Believe me, I've never seen such a bunch of mean spirited, name calling, rotten SOB's as I encountered there. It finally turned me right off of bowhunting. How folks who share a common interest can get so downright nasty with one another I'll never know. It is a real pleasure to visit this site and other fishing sites and know someone isn't going to get all over your case because you fish for bass and they fish for trout, or they're flyfishers and you're a worm dunker. I'm also under the impression that these boards aren't public property, they are private and subject to the will of the owners or moderators. If we don't like what's going on, we can move on. That's what I did with the old bowhunting site, packed my toys and went home! I enjoy this site and hope that it's civilty stays intact. P.S. I ain't got no learning in english, so this ain't wrote right please excuse my ignorance.
