The Colorado Rockies let go former Met, Payton, to sign in his place, Burnitz!!! LOL.....

here is the rub: despite what was a career season for him: .302 batting average, 28 homers and 89 Ribbies, Payton is let go....

their excuse is : we don't want to pay him what he will now be worth on the market: BALDERDASH!!!!!

anyone who hits 28 homers, bats 300 and then only ends up with 89 RBI.s is a guy that was NOT coming through MANY MANY TIMES.......

terrible RBI numbers for that park....the homer numbers are swollen....he wouldn't have hit more than 15 or so back at shea.....and the RBIs would have dipped to 60 or 70 anywhere else...

Payton was another one of their losers......when you get dropped after a "career" year, that is very very telling, my opinion....

by the way, two excellent catchers are still available on the market in the NL: Pudge Rodriguez and Javy Lopez, both coming off excellent seasons, especially, Lopez......

Lopez was all juiced up this year, bursting with veins and muscles and it jumped his homer count considerably.....next year, unless he comes up with a new designer steroid that can't be tested, his numbers will fall dramatically......

The Mets should sign one of those catchers, put Phillips at first and trade Piazza for a top line pitcher....they would get alot more wins this way and have the final piece to the "solid defense up the middle" puzzle. They would have a MUCH improved infield.....

George, I was leading up to this!! It would make the better defense plan work ....then up the middle would include catcher position....you read my mind....

LOL...you know what they say about great minds...It WOULD make ALOT of sense. Trade Piazza ASAP while he still has value. One more sub-par year and you would be able to trade him for a broken bat...
If you could get a ace pitcher for him I would have done it yestersday....
I give the Mets credit for the moves the're making BUT games are won and lost on the mound and they have some holes there.......
