Dep Weed and Algae Spraying

250 Views 4 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  lunkerboss_6266
The Dep has ruined the fishing in Croton Reservoir by killing every single weed; and now they are dumping more chemicals in the reservoir to kill all the algae! Are they trying to kill us as well, needlessly dumping all of this poison into our drinking water. Leave nature alone you fools!
If you need to spend your budget to maintain your jobs, do it in a way that does not destroy !! You are stewards of our resources, not stewards of your own employment!!!

Ahh, job justification and security. They are the worst and are also doing more harm than good.
the fun is just beginning: check out the planned severe drawdown schedule on the DEP site....they are going to kill several other reservoirs this year

you have a link you could share? thanks
The truth is they could have navigated the Hydrilla problem a lot better. In the south they use some grass carp & some weed killer to keep it under control. Here they are just going overboard which will hurt the fishery more in the future than now. Unfortunatey Sonar, & other chemicals like copper sulfate kills the milfoil & other aquatic plants which are benificial to the likelyhood of good largemouth spawns. Without successful largemouth spawns, you will wind up with an eventual smallmouth fishery. Not my cup of tea. What willl help the smallmouth fishery even more are the zebra mussels which are now in Amawalk, Musccoot & Croton. Those critters are great filters which should clear up the water which will help the smallmouth thrive. Soom Croton will be known as the St Lawrence south.
