CROTON IS ALIVE !!!
My buddy and I decided to give Muscoot a rest today so we hit the NE section of Croton instead.
The weather was amazing, very calm with no wind and the water temp hovering at 48 degrees.
I could not have asked for better conditions since I was in the mood to explore (row) to some main lake regions.
We were on fish in no time as I connected with a 4.9 lb. pick on a rattle trap in 8 feet inside a weedy flat.
My partner immediately connected with another 4.3 lb. pick, also on a trap…..we caught 5 picks total in that area, all over 3lbs. !!!
We proceeded to head out towards the main lake as there was some deep shoreline that I wanted to target with a jig-n-pig.
Nothing happened for the first 30 minutes until we reached a rock wall and then on my second cast…BAM…a 5.13 lb. LM.
Shortly after, by some rock piles another LM, this one a little smaller at 4.9 lbs. also on the jig-n-pig.
We stayed with the deep shoreline pattern most of the day and it paid dividends.
By the end of the day we had (11) bass and (14) HUGE picks that were all between 3.0 lbs. and 4.8 lbs.
The 5 biggest bass (all caught on a jig):
5.13
4.09
4.02
3.11
3.04
The 6 remaining bass were all over 2.0 lbs. which were caught on various crankbaits. It was definitely a great fall day to be out on the water, I just hope the mild temps hold out as long as possible.
