Anybody ever fish Leland Pond in Eaton, NY? Any spots and/or techniques you've used for good largemouth would be greatly appreciated!

I fished the lower pond one time... started out directly across from the launch... there's some nice lily pads and grass just before a very steep drop off... I had good luck there and caught a bunch of 2 pounders... then the bite died down... so I tried a few different areas with only a couple of dreaded pickerel bites.

The side you want to fish is the northern half or right of the boat dock. It has a mixture of depth and bottom composition that makes it far better then the southern half. It's fairly deep too. Basically, all techniques will work. The best is probably Texas rigged soft plastics.

If you're looking to fish on the big water my bass club is hosting a fall tournament on oneida lake on the 27 th of October. It's a team event 5 bass limit. Look at tournaments page cny bass anglers and read.

I used to fish quite a bit on the side without the launch. There used to be killer milfoil mats and edges, but they haven't grown in well in a couple years, so I've focused my efforts elsewhere. There are good fish in there, but there are a lot better opportunities in the area IMO.

Here are a few decent ones from "back in the day" lol. A couple 3s-3 1/2s? I don't remember. I know some guys still do really well there.

The side without the boat launch fishes well in the spring/early summer. I used to attack it with a lipless crankbait and zoom brush hogs. there is a real nice area to the left of the gravel boat launch, on the side of Rte 12B. It drops pretty quick from the shore and the bass hang out in the milfoil along the transition. Like I said ticking a lipless crankbait over the tops of the submergent weed beds there and then cleaning up with a creature, is def a good pattern. Good luck!

Thanks for the feedback guys... I appreciate it! Seems like I was on the right path fishing my Senko along the edges of the transition areas that have good vegetation.

@EAsports06rf - what other places do you fish? I usually lake fish with my buddy on his bass boat... but I have a jon boat for pond fishing - Leland and Chittning are the only two places I've tried.

I tried my luck at the lower pond over the weekend and managed to pick off a few good largemouth.

Scale wasn't working - so I couldn't get a weight on him... but this was the biggest of the day. Had one this size come off near the boat too. The rest were all solid keepers in the 1-2 lb range.

I've been having the most luck fishing the areas where the bank and basin meet... the drop off is much steeper than other areas and there's some good vegetation to provide cover for the bass.

best of luck to anyone who decides to try Leland... I definitely suggest the lower pond.
