odd isn't necessarily a bad thing... we have a new paradigm here... i'm trying to figure it out myself... anything that brings people together is a good thing.
Mikey...you still rock, after all these years! OUTSTANDING!

I'd try to make it.

OK... so the combined event isn't going to happen... i was hoping to make that work so we'd have a decent turnout since the club involved has a lot of NYBASSers in it... i'm thinking we may be too late in the game for the winter seminar now too... probably best to plan before the holiday, get speakers lined up, then wrangle some folks to help collect money, set up catering etc... kudos to John, Greg and Pete for doing this stuff in the past... not as easy as it looks folks and my plate just got totally full for february into march.

I don't understand why the secrecy as to the name of the club...if you had mentioned it from the very beginning, it would have made more sense, as, yes, there are many former and old time members in that club....but since you haven't mentioned it , I won't either.....

Mike: those seminars were a TON of work, and as you know, they were losing affairs money wise, which I never minded because you and I used to own the site....

honestly, even if I somehow was crazy enough to try to put in the work necessary to do one of these, I would no longer pull money out of my pocket as I used to in the past....

getting the speakers was becoming the hardest part of the deal....the venue was perfect....unfortunately, as you might recall, my friend that used to do the catering passed away a few years back from an untimely heart attack....the food was TOP NOTCH....not the usual drivel you would expect in those kind of things.....

yes, there are other caterers, but for what he was bringing to the table, I was getting a great price because I knew him....same for the venue: I was getting a discounted price because another patient of mine was very involved with the club, however, HE TOO PASSED AWAY....another damn heart attack, so I would no longer have the juice that I had to get the place for a few hundred cheaper....

I tell you, I had to pull a lot of strings to keep the price down and I still always ended up kicking in a good 300 of my own money to pull it off....but they were a lot of fun and bring back great memories...

Lets see if we can get some traction for a winter 2018 event then. Send an email out in October and put plans in place for a feb 2018 event. As you can see there is some definite interest and some of my best memories of NYBASS was going to the several seminars I attended. Great info, great tackle to buy and nice to meet fellow members. Having a tackle swap in conjunction with the seminars/ food gathering always seems to drive in guys to events.
I guess for now its too late as Mike said but we can try to get the ball rolling in early fall- what do you guys think?

Nick: when we peaked at about 80-90 people, there was enough revenue to cover all expenses with a little left over....

when it slipped down to about 50-60, that's when it would run over....

but the hardest thing, I keep emphasizing , amongst others, is getting the speakers.

These days if you drummed up six speakers you might have twelve people in the room. Maybe combine with a NY Metro protest and you could cover catering costs?

He was a speaker, gave a good presentation on Night Fishing, the same day my son and I were speakers (crapping my pants).
that's right, I forgot about that! lol.....I think this whole thing started as a fishing get together, not a seminar, and kind of morphed into that line of thinking, but the simplest thing for guys meeting up, would really be a fishing get together somewhere.....

even those are not easy to manage but way easier than seminars.....

the very very first get togethers of NYbass were at Lake Mahopac and that was convenient since the pizza restaurant was right there next to the marina, so everyone just went there after the fishing was over.
