I usually get mine after the new year

Around the last week in December or the first week in January it comes to my house. I like that first look through.....the calculator in my head starts to work.....ahhh...here we go again.

What's most interesting about the new BPS catalog is what is not carried any more. Once you find out that info, do a search on the item to see if there are clearance prices. Sometimes they reduce the price anywhere from 50-70%.

I don't expect many new innovations considering the Bassmaster article on What's New For 2004. Can't wait until Gaylans opens in Middletown N.Y. ! Dicks will have some major competition!

Dicks will still hold there own because if any outdoors man goes to the mall with there wife and you have a choice between going to your wifes clothing stores and dicks I think most guys would choose dicks instead of walking behind your wife going store to store. LOL

cabela's

Don't miss the bargain cave in the store (home of all merch. returns). I have been to four of the Cabela's nationally, and have had luck with my bargaining skills. If I find a piece of slightly damaged/worn gear, I find a clerk (in managerial position) to verify price, scratch my head, point out defects, etc. I got a 7' fish eagle II spin rod with a broken reel seat for $28.

2004 Catalog

I think the new catalog is a disappointment ! Yeah sure, it's thicker than the previous year but that's because of all the non fishing items added in the master catalog !

IMHO BPS has been offering less and less choices in the last couple of years. Ironically, Cabela's has surpassed BPS and offers more diverse selection of tackle.

The first thing I noticed while thumbing through the catalog was the "red hook" syndrome ! It seems that every manufacturer jumped on the band wagon to offer red hooks on all type of lures......just another "FAD" in my opinion !
