For those of you unfamiliar with the NYS DEC public comment process on proposed regulations - usually when something is proposed it will take some substantial quantity in addition to well reasoned remarks to have the regulation amended.

As Burnie and I have told you all numerous times before - the aquaculture industry is looking to make it easier to sell hatchery-reared black bass for food. This has now reached the official public comment process and it has the potential to impact not only bass management but other game fish management. I apologized for the length of the attached from the Onondaga County Fisheries Advisory Board to NYS DEC. It is their comment against the proposed regulation change.
However, it provides some necessary background and analysis about the regulation, the regulatory contradiction, the lack of controls, etc...

Estimated selling price (as reported by the Aquaculture Intersector - $12 to 14 a pound (LIVE WEIGHT)... you guys being bass anglers, any idea what just selling your average daily 5 fish limit of would be at half off?? 10 lbs of bass at $5.00/lb. - $40 to 50/day. - 7 days a week.. $300 or so a week under the table.

Anybody think that people and the Asian market restaurants won't be going this route to offset their legal shipment?

No tagging - no visual controls and no accountability.

Read it and voice your concerns to fishregs@gw.dec.state.ny.us - BEFORE JUNE 18th.

Or don't take the time... and then maybe we can start including recipes with the fishing reports!!

CHOICE IS YOURS!!
