Buying and selling- Is it me or what?

I've been around alot of people selling "new" merchandise over the years.
It was taught to me being either the buyer or seller taht if you have something new in the box (fell off the truck) the price started at 50% off retail. If it was used at all it was at least 60% off retail or lower.
Why do people think their stuff is like gold when they're trying to sell it?

No doubt. Just because it's wrapped doesn't mean it's new: I can get stuff seal wrapped all proffesional like at a book store my friend works at.

Have to agree that recently there have been some people asking top dollar, nothing stopping you from making a counter offer or just passing it by if it's to much.

That is not true of all sellers, I have both bought and sold equipment on this site and am very happy with the deals I've made.

Would like to see more stright up trades.

In my experience, its pretty easy to sell new tackle for about 75-80% of normal retail online. On used gear, its more like 50-70% of the original price. Used Curados go on Ebay all the time for $75-$85, which is about 70% of the new price.

Not for anything , I would never buy used eqipment from someone I dindn`t know,or at least new someone that could vouch for the seller.

Especially, over the internet. A lot of guys that sell stuff on here are friends of other members that reffered them here. Usually , they post it in the thread.

Nick - Off the truck -- 60% discount -- unless you know the guy that kicked it off !!!! Ever notice they don`t take credit cards --- unless the sold them to you also !!!

IMO people should have a right to advertise ANY price they want without getting bashed!

If you don't agree with the asking price, make a counter offer or move on.

Well said Ronnie. As long as the buyer and seller are happy with the transaction, that's all that should matter.

Greg, you don't happen to have any Cabelas jerkbaits from the 90's or Fenwick Poppers do you? Any bait that I would throw would be a fine trade with me.

With discontinued items you eventually have the scarcity factor as well. In my mind, $110 shipped isn't a bad deal if its a reel that you really like.

HUSKY, I see your point and respect you take on it. I didn't mean to specifically single out the Curado guy. It seems to be most for sale items including boats. Make that especially boats. Now, let's say you knew a guy who's got a bead on Fuego's, now that'd be a different story and one that I would be extremely interested in. Hypothetically speaking of course.

Things that fall of the truck in my hood is a minimum of 50% of most of the time 60-70% depending how bad their drug habit is.

My nieghborhood get stuff like DVD player, Cam recorders, MP3's. Those guys selling the speakers out of the white van would get an ass whipping in my hood....honor amonst thieve.....to rip someone off would spoil it for the rest.

Unfortunately, Shimano or St. Croix products don't make it around my way too often, but I still have hope oneday someone will pull up with a truck....say ...ppsstttt open the back, and a 17-20 foot fully loaded Skeeter, Lund, Tracker for about $500.....I'm all over it.

Nicky, you're absolutely correct! However, my "bashing" comment was in no way directed toward you.

All I'm saying is that people have a right to ask ANYTHING they want. This does not give ANYONE the right to bash the seller because they don't agree with the asking price (an occasional occurrence on NYBASS). If someone is willing to pay the price, so be it, otherwise they should just move on.
