With much thanks to Ben Merritt, owner of "BassKwondo Custom Bass Jigs" several members attending the "Northcountry Roundup 2008" this July will get to win some of his hand-tied custom Bass jigs that are awesome in the free raffle held right after our shore luncheon.

Ben, thanks for your generousity in supporting this fishing get-together !
    You the man, buddy !!

If anyone is interested in seeing the jigs that Ben can tie custom for you, check out his website at www.basskwondo.com

    Elliot,
I am not sure if any places rent cabins on a daily/weekend basis.
Most rentals that I know of do rent by full weeks.

"Canarsas" is the "camp" next to the one I go to.
I will make inquiries to some folks up there about rental availability on the lake.

Hey Bill, that would be great. I dont mind paying an extra few nights if its not too crazy. This get together sounds like fun, even my wife is interested so we will do what we need to get there. Ideal situation, motel, hotel or cabin... bar and restaurant within walking distance PRICELESS!...

We may have a few husband/wife boats here this year.
Possibly three, maybe even four right now.

Last year, member "Maico" came with his wife that day, and he caught the biggest fish that day. Maybe 'lady luck' had something to do with it.
We also had a few young guys with a dad; and also a teen fishing with his dad last year, too.

    I'll try to keep the two "crazy canadians" coming in for the day under somewhat of control..{LMAO}

I have located a "bed and breakfast" located almost right at the turnoff for the ramp named "Sunday Pond" which has EXTREMELY reasonable rates fora B&B.
Form 'Sunday Poind" to the ramp, maybe abouta 1/2 mile to the ramp.
The 'Colgate Camp' I stay at is just south of Sunday Pond, but you must be Colgate Univ Alumni to stay there[I am a fund-raiser, family of Colgate U alum].
They offer dinner meals there, too.

While I nor the person who suggested it have never stayed there, they heard it was nice. The lake itself is gorgeous and serene.

The DEC launch ramp locate at the extreme north end of the lake is free, paved, and has ALOT of parking for boat trailer rigs.[From 'Sunday Pond" , maybe 5 minutes drive, if that]
    .............................
The town of Lake Placid is about a 20-30 minute drive to the east-south-east, and it is bustling in the summertime, with many motels, hotels, shops and restaurants.

    .....................

I arrive up to Colgate U Camp the saturday prior to the get-together, and depart the following Saturday.
Anyone in the area that week should try to contact me so we can fish together as well on other days.
I run a green dual-console Ranger, with gold accents.
    .......................

I try real hard to make this a fun day for everyone that attends.
Beers and cocktails have been known to occur at the shore-lunch.

If anyone wants a laugh, go to www.lunkerville.com , and watch the video there of "Wild Bill and Dr Destructo" which was filmed there two years ago on a day that hit 101 degrees [record-setting temps that day]. Due to the extreme heat [and ALOT of cocktails that day] the fishing suffered terribly, but we had alot of fun despite the heat anyway. Normally days are between the 70s- and 80s, with nights cooling off considerably. Pack jackets/sweatshirts if staying the night, as it cools considerably due to the altitude there.

Glad it worked out for you.

Stop down to Colgate Camp when you get settled in.
Enjoy compimentary evening cocktails courtesy of me and a bonfire that night with us at Colgate Camp, if you'd like.
From Sunday Pond, it is a very short drive between where we are staying, and I could provide a "shuttle service" so that you could enjoy cocktails without the worry of driving intoxicated.

Also, if you two enjoy playing tennis, please come use the Colgate tennis court.
I raised funds to have it refurbished, and it is now named in honor of my deceased grandfather and uncle that summered at Colgate Camp for decades.

"Sunday Pond" has now notified me that all their rooms are booked for Tuesday night, with "Alces 1954' getting the last room for that evening.

Another place to find rooms that I just found is at the very nearby Saranac Inn Golf Course which has rooms available still for $75.00 a night.
    [518] 891-1402
Ten rooms are currently still available for Tuesday night.
If you enjoy golf, this course is truly beautifully maintained, as well.

    Don't worry about bringing women...

Those 'crazy canadians' are possibly bringing an inflatable one named "DOLLY" that has a 'suprised look" on her face like she is trying to say OH, I am told!!!....{LMAO} !!
    Who knows what they will say when the customs inspector finds it as they cross the border, and says "purpose of visit"?? {LOL}

PM me what cocktails you two like to drink.
I always have 'brown big-boy malt beverages" and also ice-cold Cosmopolitians[a/k/a "Jim Jones Punch"-cause it leaves the crowd on the ground], plus some assorted other 'adult beverages' and soft drinks there.
Colgate Camp does not have a liquor license, so they do not sell any alcohol, but they set us up with ice, glasses, and lemons and limes, and then we knock ourselves out...{LOL}.

At five o'clock every night, it is 'happy hour' at Camp, with set-ups and appetizers prior to our dinner hour. If you are there that early, come on down and join us for cocktail hour, too.
    ..................

Regarding the shore lunch, I bring the grilles and sirloin burgers for everyone.
I also bring paper plates, napkins, plastic forks, serving spoons and spatulas and some soft drinks, plus some 'Jim Jones Punch" for the daring.

Everyone attending is asked to bring SOMETHING towards the meal/cup for lunch that day.
Please let me know in advance what people will be bringing, so there is enough for everyone.

    Some suggested things for people to bring;

Hot dogs and or Sausages to grill
    Cheese slices[for cheeseburgers]
    Onion slices
    Tomato Slices
    Burger Rolls
    Deli-type of salads.
    Beers
    Soft-drinks
    Chips
    Etc......
    .................................

After lunch, I host a free raffle of donated fishing products, with everyone attending getting some things.

Other than the cost of getting yourselves there, and the cost of what you bring for lunch....the day is totally free.

NY Fishing licenses are required !
The NY DEC DOES check frequently up there that week, based on my many years of getting checked by them on the water that week.

I will share much info on currently working baits and good fishing spots so that hopefully everyone will catch some fish.
Some good performing baits in the past have been spinnerbaits, suspending jerkbaits, crankbaits, swimming grubs, tubes, hula-grubs, drop-shot rigs, etc, etc....
