Hook type do you use to wacky rig senkos

I've been using 1/0 offset gammys but it just does't look right . Works ok but I think a short shank would be better. any ideas?

i use owner mutu circle hooks. and have had good success. no over the head hooksets. just steady pressure from reel.

The Owner Mosquito hook. Good hook for wacky rigs IMO.

Gammy EWG 2/0

works great. I know alot of guys use circle hooks with good results. If you decide to use the circle or octopuss style hooks be sure to sweep set the hook. If you rear back and set the hook the fish will come unbuttoned EVERY time.

Bass try a weedless worm hook. I have had good luck with them fishing senkos in weeds

bassman I use the same hook you do the only thing is if you fish close to the weeds. Al has a good idea with the weedless, I think if you were to use a short shank hook you might have a problem removing the hook from the fish later on when you let him go.

I used octopus style hooks all last year, the Owner SSW I think? anyway I had NO problems with deep hooked fish, not one. My only trouble was hang-ups using this hook.
I bought a few circle hooks to try this year and see if it's any better to reduce the snags.
Hookups were very good, could be better, but couldn't it always be better!

John, the circle and octopus hooks came into vogue a lot last year, because people used them when wacky rigging senkos, and of course, as you might recall, circle hooks and the reel set with them was popularized by the Yammie camp with IKAs......now, if you go to one of the original wacky type worms, the Jersey Rig, it was fished by it's inventor with a small reg straight shank worm hook, not offset....I keep some of these in my tackle all the time in case I tie on a Jersey rig which is one of the best wacky presentations out there..... Thanks

Thanks for all the input. Good point about the Jersey rig. i think I'll try a small straight worm hook. Those offset gammys I've been using just look like too much hardware sticking out.

Remember - you dont need my hook, Its exposed. I use a 1/0 for just about all my wacky riggin. Try the Owner Mosquito hooks too. I just bought some little ones for drop shottin. I firmly believe that this will become MY HOOK this year for soooo many applications. I personally dont like a weedless hook rigged wacky style. IMHO - its too much hardware - giving the bait an unatural look to it.

I was with Mike Delvisco a few years ago fishing wacky senkos here on Maho. We had easily 30 fish in three hours with it, but I seemed to be outfishing Mike three to one. He asked me about it, and why I thought it was. I mentioned t\his hook, and thought it was too big, and not the right style. He was using a featherlight 2/0 wide gap worm hook. When i gave him one of the Gammy Octo hooks I was using - we went one for one the rest of the day. Like I said - its just my opinion, but I have seen it make a difference.

Thanks Pat

You use a 1/0 gammy octopus hook correct? Any special hook set required? Like the sweep set others talked about when using circle hooks?

I use a #4 yamamoto splitshot hook, they were gone for a while and I just read that they are back in stock so I will be stocking up. I started hammering largemouths on wacky rigged senkos last year and the splitshot is the best hook I found. I was normally fishing the inside weedlines and would work the bait over the weeds and let it sink on deep side if I didn't get bit on the inside, so by keeping the bait over the heaviest weeds I didn't need a weedless hook. Looks like I'll bassnin in a couple of weeks, gotta get the reals cleaned and spooled and the ski-doo put up and the stratos ready to go.

I use the 2/0 Gammy straight-shanked weedless hooks or GYCB #4 splitshot hooks if the smallies are realy hitting or there is not too much brush. The splitshot hooks work OK in most weed situations but HATE brush.
