Cut Tail Senkos
quote:
The 7X has all the great features of a Senko - same salt, same density, same formulation - and it casts well and falls like a Senko when rigged weightless. But the 7X has a unique action with its special cut tail.
Well, I'm a sucker so I'll order up a few bags. Anyone else taking the plunge?

yeah mark,
They look like good finesse baits...I have some of the small ones, I think they
are 4"...I dont think they will have the same fall as the senkos, but they
could be close...I never tried them in that manner but I texas rigged them with
a small worm weight like I would a 5" slider worm...They caught fish and
they have all that salt in them...Do they come in a hundred different colors
like the senkos? And if so, buy them all!!! Double your Yammy inventory with
one phone call (lol)...
Are you going out on Tues?...I still don't know what I'm doing...I know I'll be
fishing, I just don't know where...It depends on the ice status on those lakes
up there in your neck of the woods...Talk to you soon...

I will almost definitely be working on Tuesday ![]()
but will be going out this weekend...

I have used the 4 inch cut tails T rigged and on slider heads. I tried them weightless too but I didnt think they had the fall of the Senko.

The 7X
Cut-tails
which are 6.5 inches are
the same wight as a five inch Senko.
I will be fishing this size of cut-atil weightless on a big EWG hook instead of
a Super Fluke, fishing it a bit faster than I would a Senko.
I have used the four inch -cut-tails on c-rigs, mojo-rigs and drop-shot rigs,
and it is an awesome bait, a over-looked, and under-sung gem in the GYCB lineup
as such.
Ijust have gotren the 3.5 inch ones nad the 7X in some quantity, so so I will
give a better report, as i plan a trip to NJ this week.
It's a tough life, but someone has to do it....

Not Senkos
These are excellent baits. They are the Yamamoto Cut Tail worm. Don't confuse them with senkos for ordering purposes. They are very lite.

yuck
didnt like the 4inch cut
tails...Ive caught sum on it, but like Nick said, its light. Could be a good
drop shot bait, maybe.
As far as the 4inchers go, Ill take Berkeley's Original Power Worm anytime, the RingWorm, and Zoom's Finesse
worms. Then the Sliders.....

These baits are worms,
not Senkos and pretty good ones at that. I personally dont have much experience
with them because they are new, and we lived in Antartica practically this year
(lol), but from what I understand, they really fish nice. Russ sent out an
email saying that guys are fishing these like a Fluke or a jerk-worm due to its
weight. It really is a nice bait. I actually cant wait to flip it. I think that
most of the flipping fish that are out there are so used to seeing curly tails
and jigs passing by their nose, that a rather straight tail, or cut tail might
be giving them something different to look at.
I also really want to try this thing rigged with a small barel swivel in front
of it, and fished shallow, much like a jerk-worm. That should work nice.
I'll be at the GYCB Lake Okechobee TX on the 11th, and I KNOW Im going to fish
this little jewel down there. I'll report back on its action and fishability.
As for the little 4" - it is a DYNAMITE drop shot bait. It is so thin that
you can leave it on one place and shake it without having to move it much. That
bait produced many big smallies last year. Not much of a cannonballing bait,
but for when you want to finesse fish, it really produces. It also works nicely
when rigged on a ball head jig or a Slider head. Just my 2.0!
Senkos are Senkos, but a cut tails are cut tails - just dont want you to get
confused when your order.
Thanks

Pat--
I got the feeling the 7X cut tail was being marketed as being similar to the
Senko. The smaller 4" versions seem to be less senko like, but the big
ones I ordered (6.5") claim to have the same weight and fall as the
5" senko.
I forsee fishing a 7X Cut tail in a similar fashion to the 5"
Senko...t-rigged on a 3/0 Gammy EWG hook, weightless. I'm hoping for the same
horizontal slow tip-undulating fall as the 5" senko, and a sililar action
when dead-sticked through the milfoil, except with the added bonus of the cut
tail looking like the caudal fin of a dieing baitfish. Am I off-base, or can I
expect that type of action? I guess I'll find out soon enough when my order
arrives, but any insight from our resident Yammy expert would be appreciated!

To repeat my esteemed
colleague PatX comments, do not get these two baits confused.
As most of you know, I have been using the 4" cut tail for 3 years and it
is without doubt the second best bait EVER produced to catch bass is the last
10 years. First place still belongs to the Senko and as I think I have shared
with some of you in the past, the Senko and the cut tail are made from the same
plastic/salt blending process unique to GYCB.
What we have here is a 7 inch cut tail . The suggestion in the text that
accompanies this product indicates that you can "fish it like your
Senko" so perhaps that is where the confusion comes in!
I still believe that the cut tail is the "pre-dining" experience to
bass fishing before the main course............the Senko!

Mark,
Your dead on - expect that kind of action. That bait will fall horizontal if it
is rigged with a relatively light wire hook. Im not pushing a sponsor -
honestly - but GYCB has a Sugoi light wire hook that works really nice for this
presentation. I have always been suprised just how strong this little sucker
is. Its so light that I try to use it every time that I am fishing a bait that
has to fall slow, or at least fall by the weight of the plastic, not the hook. Carolina riggin for example - its a great
hook for that. I would NOT use that hook for flipping, or for fishing in the
mat like on the Hudson (now, i never straightened one of these out, but....like
I said, its a light wire hook - great for certain applications like yours).
If you have another hook that is really light, expect the same. This bait WILL
act like a Senko in that way (weightless, wacky, etc.), but expect the fall to
be a little different than a Senko. The Senko is tapered on both sides, and is
perfectly round. The Cut Tail has that fin that you mentioned. That fin, or
cut-tail will cause the bait to fall in a spiral pattern - like a said -
effective but not exactly like a Senko. Heck - THE THING IS GONNA WORK! Trust
me. LOL - its sometimes tough putting in words what your eyes see on the water
some times - LOL
I still say that this sucker is going to make a GREAT flipping bait, or just
cast it to thoseweededges that everyone else fishes STANDARD (whatever that
means -
)
worms. The action is going to be GREAT!!!!!
LETS GO FISHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Im all pumped up!!!

Mark, The reason it might seem to be advertised as "Senko Like" is in some of the print ads they use the word Senko a very clever way of suggesting it will work as well as a Senko so buy them. In the new BASSMASTER magizine the add says it "Casts well and falls like a Senko" not confusing.

My Yammy order just
walked in the door!
I just reviewed the 6.5" cut tails in relation to some normal 5" senkos
I ordered and I'm pretty excited to try them out. I hope they have that same
fall as the 5" and from the discussions and marketing lit, I expect they
will.
I'll report on my findings with them once I get out on the water!

Not being afraid to admit when I might be wrong i will admit I might be wrong about this product. I bought a bag last weekend and tried them on my local River and while the water might only be 38 degrees and I didnt expet to catch anything I was impressed with the large cut tail. It falls very much like a senko with a nice "worm" like profile. This bait has HUGE potential dropped into pads or besides stumps. It also has a nice action when jerked or popped kind of soft jerkbaitish with an action tail. I was impressed. Blue Crawfish!

I just may have to try some of the 7X size. Does any one how the 4" size compares to an actual Slider worm? I would think they would work well. Do they come in Blue Crawfish color? OOPS!
