Bass Bob, welcome to the board....BassRat is our resident funny guy, so dont take him too serious, however, he is on the right track, the spelling can sometimes throw people off when they are trying to read your posts, so tighten it up a little...Senkos are very well known and exposed in the fishing community....go on the top of the screen and hit the Search Tab and type in senko and you will get a lot of articles that have been on here, including ones on wacky rigging them..... UnhappyBob & John

Sorry Bob I didn't realize it was you 4th post.

So to be serious, just for a moment, I don't know how to rig a Senko so it helicopters.

I'd be interested in hearing the answer from some of our other participants.

TalkingWelcome to the board, Bob.

Never heard of wacky riggin' a Senko to spiral down, but I'd imagine if you stuck it somewhat off-center with the hook, and pinched on a 1/32 oz. split shot right in front of the hook, that you would get a slow, spiraling fall. Might not look good to a bass that way, though, but who knows?

Using a "Senko Jig" can give it a 'nose-down' spiraling action, especially with the use of a darter-head jighead.

Tight Lines...

spiraling senko...mmmm...how about if you purposely twist the line turning the senko around , that'll do the trick. Sounds like an outrageous idea, but, heck, who knows? The wacky rigging in itself looks pretty funny and yet it works...

Bob - Welcome to the board.

Interseting idea, but sounds like a whole lot of line twisting to me !!!!

Thanx for your help and sorry about the spelling but I got
my education in Port Jervis he he he!!!! I heard some guys
talking about it but I didn't get all the details.

Ding, Ding, Ding.....

Dodgeguy you beat me to the punch. Stick a nail in one end and that should do it. You could rig it the normal wacky style w/o having to offset the hook. Rig it in the middle.

One of the boaters in my club said that the TX rig Senko with a gammy hook that if you moved the hook farther down the bait it would fall different. I like TX rigging them in heavy cover it fishes better and you don't have to clean the aquadic vegetation off of the hook and don't always lose the bait when you get a bite.

HV, that would change the center of balance but I guarantee it will decrease the life of the bait. I bet your friend rips through the head of the bait on just about every hookset.

Cool

What a lot of people do not realize about the Senko is that if you do not place the hook in the right position when fishing "whacky style", the bait will not react as well, neither will it "dive", which is what I think Bob has been told about!

I am going to give away the secret of hooking a Senko that was shown to me by an
Alabama pro before they were as famous as they are today.

If you hold any size Senko (you all know I prefer the 5 inch) you will see that either side of the smooth area (often called the egg sack) the bait has a long and a short side.

The hook is often placed in the "egg sack" because people immediately think this is where it should go! WRONG!

Fact is, you should count two ribs or ridges along the Senko on the long side and it is at the second ridge where you should place the hook!

If you now hold up the Senko on the hook, you will see that it sits almost perfectly in the center. I say "almost" because this is where that action Bob is speaking of will come into play.

When you cast the Senko, allow it to fall in the water column until it is almost out of sight, then snap the rod upwards and immediately drop the rod tip..... the bait will flutter then "dive" in a motion you may never have seen before. It actually "swims (fat end first) away from you!!!!!!!! I have perfected this cast to where I can make the Senko swim under a dock edge and have taken some bone crushing strikes because of it!

Well the "cat is out of the bag" now and I will probably never be allowed "privilaged" information again, but I think it will make all of those who read this, even more determined to fish the Senko and to capture the "fish of a lifetime" from their local watering hole.

Tight Lines!

Good tip Charlie, I look forward to trying it out. Have you tried that with a 9S? I also like the #9 and have found that they make good "flying lures" when the hook is downsized and rigged texas style in the tail.

Brad

Cool

Hi Brad!

same hook position applies, just make the hook smaller to compensate for the lenght of the Senko.

My rule of thumb for"Whacky" style:
6 inch Senko 2/0 baithook
5 inch Senko 1/0 baithook
4 inch Senko # 1 baithook
3 inch Senko # 2 baithook or (# 4 for drop shotting)

Tight Lines!
