Finally, Pics of my Boat Dolly

Well...finally! I started a thread last year on instructions on building a boat dolly. I promised pics of it, and just never took them. Holding to my word, here they are. This dolly makes moving my Pelican Gator Boat by myslef a cinch! I just strap it to the rear of my boat, and right into the back of my truck.

All I do is set it into the water, position the boat right up against the two platforms, slide the boat back, and the dolly literally picks the boat up as it slides over it.

Strap the dolly securely with a wratchet strap:

And into the bed of the truck:

I know I emailed out the instructions to a lot of the members on how to build it, and was curious if anyone built it, and how they were doing with it?

I will tell ya John, that dolly only comes off the boat when I am in the water, and when I put the boat away for the winter.

gemini- I built one for my skiff also. But mines w/a little differ constuction.
Using an old bed frame cut and welded in a 2ftx4ft rectangle shape platform and 2- 16in bike wheels but sits under the middle
of skiff.Kinda like a seesaw action for better balance. That way i could carry everything at once(motor, battery, poles, etc.)But yours is cool too.........smoke?

Nice idea

I use one similar to what Smoke is describing except I'm to lazy to build one. I used a cart designed for carpet.

I use a couple of ratchet straps to hold the boat on it. With the pivoting base and big inflatable tires it goes anywhere, over rocks, down steps....Gear and all.

I carry everything in the boat...two batteries, fishfinder, electric motor, tackle box, 3 poles, and ice box for food. With the dolly in the back of the boat, it is like a wheel barrel. Did I mention even when I get home, nothing comes out of the boat. Just open the garage, into the pick up, and off I go. Everything stays in the boat so I never forget anything.

Under the box you type your reply there is a small box that says attach file with a browse button next to it. Hit browse show it where the picture is (usually my documents/my pictures) click on the file name and it should attach itself.

Bear55...I sent you a message.
Gregg is also correct. This method is great for those who do not have a website that can host the pictures.

Boat Dolly,

Gem,

I received a set of your dolly blueprints last fall. I modified them over the winter to meet my needs. Glad to see your post & pics, thought that I would include a response and pics of my modifications. I use my trolling motor in the bow so I leave the dolly attached to the transom pretty much all of the time. Acts as a rudder in the water. Roll the boat into the water, when it floats jump in and I'm off fishing. Dolly can be removed in 5 minutes if the need arises, Easy on-easy off. Everything is left in the boat, rods, gear, electronics, etc. Roll it on the truck and roll it off at the launch.

then http or IMG them to here.

??????????????????????????????
Gemini your getting the two methords mixed up. If you use the attach file option you don't use tags, img tags are for when the picture is somewhere else.

"C:\Documents and Settings\Ed Kane\My Documents\boat1.jpg"

This will not work either. This is the address of the picture on your computer. For a picture to be seen on the web it must be on an addressable computer which would give it an address that starts with http://

C:\dos, C:\ dos run, run dos run.............LOL

Hello Dolly

Sorry guys,

I know that this is getting tedious but I think I have it. Had to resize the pictures. Hope the result is worth the trouble.

Gregg, Thank you.

Gem here are my modifications. If you back thru my posts I think you'll get a clue as to why I modified the way I did. Let me know what you think

thanks

Hey bear55....glad it worked.
And wow, nice mods to the original plan. Do you have a copy of the mods that you have done? I might want to duplicate it for my boat. How does it stay attached to the boat?

Need a canoe dolly...

JPBass...I liked your device...where did you get it, and how much was it??? I got no welding tools, so building one is tough...

Hi Wild Bill. The dolly I built is not welded. Yes it I did use plumbing pipe, but all I did was "screw" them together tight. No welds.

Bill,

That's a carpet cart. They come in different sizes, a smaller one should suffice for a canoe. Any carpet supply house should carry them.

All County Flooring in Farmingdale or Salesmaster in
Deer Park are the two I use.

Thanks JPBass....
As I get older, I get wiser{lazier}....lol.

This design seems like just what I was looking for. A couple of Nylon Tie-down straps, and good to go.....

For you guys that dont have the skills, time or just to lazy. You can buy a heavy duty boat carrier for less then $125 via Cabales.Thats where i got the idea to build mine.
I think the seesaw action would be less stress on your arms than the wheel barrel.

what a great thread !!
Thanks for all the ideas !!
