Self Defense

You guys have the most active bass fishing website on the internet. All the individuals who are participating in this site care about the site, what is posted, and about each other. I have been very impressed with site since I first stumbled across it a few months ago while looking for fishing information about Northern waters.

The number of posts to my last Catching Report is conclusive evidence of the members interest in this web site. I am very, very impressed wtih the quality of individuals participating.

I find it necessary to step in and give myself some defense about some of the posts.

My living comes from fishing. I guide and I fish national tournaments. This year I was involved in a catastrophic (at least for me) boating accident and have not been able to meet my competition demands. That aside, I do post "Stick Marsh & Farm 13 Catching Reports" on a number of sites. Not every one goes to one site to see a report. Not every one Goes to all sites. By placing my report on a number of sites I make it visible to all those who wish to read it.

I have been fishing Stick Marsh & Farm 13 since just after it opened. I was the first guide to take clients out on Stick Marsh and Farm 13. Once of my clients caught the first ten pound bass on
Dec 31, 1991. I have been on the waters more than any human alive. My catching reports are read by other guides.

It has been my intention that my catching reports should include information that will help someone who went out on their own be able to catch bass. Also, I want to include some information that is transferrable to fishing situations other places. And, yes, I do want to promote myself and my services.

My catching reports are also self defense. To explain. There are a large number of guides who advertise Stick Marsh & Farm 13 but have never been here and others who never who intend to guide here. Those guides just want the calls. When they get the call they tell the folks how Stick Marsh & Farm 13 suck. So rather than tell the truth about each of these guides I post a Catching Report. I try the more positive approach.

One person e-mailed me and basically said I was advertising on MYBass for free. I do not pay to post. But, it takes time and effort to do a Catching report. Time is money. Do you ever work for free. There are lots of folks who read my catching reports. On several other sites I have a loyal following. On this site there have been lots of "views" and "Comments".

Ok, my intentions are honerable. Oh, the BabyBassBoats(TM) are listed on ebay at about $2.50 each. Also, when someone purchases off my website ($10 ea) I always put in a few extra.

To be honest I am not in the lure selling business. I do not want to make and sell them. I have designed a buzzbait that is unlike any other. It runs straight, hops over wood, and goes over vegetation. The hook is a long shank, chemically sharpened hook. The lures work. All I am trying to do is to prove the value of my lure and sell the design and name to some company that is in the business of producing the lure. In the meantime I hand make my lures for those who want something better than the other guy. Don't believe me- that is why they are $10 each. Why ebay- everyone who reads the listing reads an advertisement.

God Bless You, Hugh Crumpler III

Hugh..

I have read your posts and have seen the recent comments regarding them. I sat here for a while reading this as well and wondered if I had or needed to say anything in response. I decided yes.
I have seen other true spammers come here and tout this and that about their products and services and basically do nothing else but that, and then disappear for a few months only to spam again when they know it is looked down upon by many of us here. From what I see you have something to offer and do so with your reports. Are you selling as well....yeah.....but if we all can have a reliable source for out of state reports the trade off is worth it. Many of us do travel to catch fish in other parts of the country and if we can get information on some of these destinations as easily as coming to NYBASS then why cant we tolorate a tad of self promotion. As long as your posts remain sincere and you continue to share some of your experiences with us I think we all would warm up a bit and embrace you as a true NYBASS'er. I think this post was a nice gesture and a way for some of us to get to know who you are and what you expect to give and get back from this site.

Yes we do!
What the other thread has proven is even if some of us thought of it as spam other are interested. If people are interested then they should be here.

Well put Scott!

This site is extremely fair and equitable. I don't think Hughs post warrant and agression. Hell I'd like to catch a ten pound Stick Marsh & Farm 13 bass!

As with many things in life, attitude is everything. Woody pretty much summed it up about the members here being fickle toward spammers, of which there have been plenty over the years.

Shoot, even when invited to come in and given the opportunity to discuss a personal product before an audience who could have really catapaulted it forward, much less occured, a la the Hover Lure™ from a year ago or so.

Hugh emailed me after I posted up that some of us New Yorkers LOVE cold weather Smallie fishing, and shortly after he saw that, he emailed me about it, regaling his tournament experiences in in the 1000 Islands and the St. Lawrence River if I recall correctly, with deep admiration of our New York waters. It led to a short, but very sincere email conversation over locations, live shiners vs. artificial baits, etc., which left me respecting Hugh much more. He took the time to answer ALL of my questions and establish genuine rapport.

Indeed, as his post in this topic indicates, he will put together sincere and well put thoughts independent of his copied/pasted Stick Marsh/Farm 13 reports. His emails to me really indicated his enthusiasm for the bass fishing we all love.

So, I guess chalk it up to attitude. Hugh is obviously a sincere angler trying to make a living doing what he loves. Sure, I still say the reports are, in general, an advertisement, but at least it comes with nothing but good and sincere intentions. I didn't think he would come back in to check his posts, and I got more than an earful (or 'eyeful' in the emails) than I thought.

Hugh, I would love to see you posting up more variated thoughts here, as your time permits, of course. Although our fishing conditions, seasons and even sub-species of Largemouths (Northern strain) are different than yours, I'm sure you have a
LOT to offer in the forums here, on both Largies and Smallies. I'd like to hear your thoughts on targeting big bass (6-8 pounders here in NY as opposed to the 10-12 pounders down by you), and strategies that you found to work for you when you did get a chance to fish up in New York. I'll bet you would help us appreciate some new angles!

And yes, Hugh, NYBass.com IS the most active regional fishing board on the internet, by far! Very much agreed!

Tight Lines...

I'm completely lost never heard of this place where is it and what's it all about?

Posted by JOHN G on 2002 PM:

Jack, these waters are in Florida, and they were started actually as bass breeding grounds and then were opened for fishing access on a limited reserved nature......they have been written up extensively in the magazines, especially BASSMASTERS, and several of our members have fished them in the past.....on those waters, you will get a lot of consistency in size as well as numbers......
