Posted by HugeFish4 on 09-21-2003 09:35 PM: 9/21 - Lake Welch Andrew Bornn and I hit Welch this afternoon from 1:30 til dusk. The day started off pretty slow with neither of us doing much of anything. When we got to the Boat House, Andrew had a good fish on, but it dogged him under the boat and came unbuttoned as he went to shut off the trolling motor. You SPAZ! LOL! We then headed over to the beach flat and concentrated on cranking the dropoffs. I got on a roll and banged out 4 largies over there and Andrew got a small bronzeback. Here is a pic of one of my largies:

Hopefully, at least one of them will pan out! Wish me luck...I need a break from all this fishing! LOL! __________________ Posted by One Under on 09-22-2003 09:16 AM: John, sorry I missd you, but it sounds and looks like you had a good day. My day was below average with a few LM dinks, nothing to speak of. __________________ Posted by MikeM on 09-22-2003 09:27 AM: Huge, Posted by One Under on 09-22-2003 03:43 PM: Top Zone View of Welch I just looked up Lake Welch on topozone.com. The north end of the lake has a different look than how the lake is shaped right now? I guess the topographical map on the site predates some "remodeling" of the shoreline - perhaps when they "installed" the beach? __________________ Posted by HugeFish4 on 09-22-2003 04:50 PM: One Under, I have seen that map. What a joke! It must be ancient. To your point, it has the now disconnected Beaver Pond as part of the lake!!!! LOL! __________________ Posted by 5bass on 09-22-2003 05:37 PM: huge Good luck to you with the interviews even though you dont need luck because good people always come out ahead. those are some nice lake welch fish . do you guys ever go under the bridge and flip the weeds you know me and my weeds I love the green stuff. 5bass __________________ Posted by HugeFish4 on 09-22-2003 06:03 PM: 5Bass, didn't go under the bridge this time, but often do. Never flipped the weeds, but have had some very good success with spinnerbaits and topwater back there. Oh yeah, I'll take some luck with job hunt...everybody could use a little luck! __________________ Posted by Woody on 09-22-2003 07:28 PM:
On your interviews.... Posted by HugeFish4 on 09-22-2003 07:51 PM: Woody...thanks! I have caught some decent fish this year, however, I am sure my "stats" won't be too impressive for many of the Great Lakes fisherman and some off the other big fish catchers on this board. I am pretty happy with the fish I have caught this year, however, I just cannot seem to break the 6lb barrier. I have been tracking my 4lb+ fish. To date, I have caught 21 fish over 4lbs. I actually believe the number to be possible higher by 5-10 fish, because my digital scale consistently underestimates weights. For example, at this weekend's Rockland Lake tourney, my scale said 3.4-3.5lbs, while the official weight was 3.84lbs. To date, I have also caught over 850 bass (not all keepers). This is due to the sheer number of local pond stints and full day affairs I have gone on. Quite honestly, I can say that I have only had about 3 or 4 outings with 20+ fish being landed. When the season is done, I will post the techniques and lakes where the big girls were landed. Right now the vast majority of big fish have come from Rockland Lake. The genetics are astounding over there! __________________ Posted by Theole34 on 09-22-2003 07:52 PM: don't forget your resume john... __________________ Posted by HugeFish4 on 09-22-2003 07:55 PM: Rob, thanks for the memories! LOL! __________________ Posted by Gregg on 09-22-2003 08:24 PM: Huge how many fishing trips did it take to reach that plato. Posted by TVal on 09-22-2003 08:47 PM: Huge __________________ Posted by HugeFish4 on 09-22-2003 11:24 PM: Gregg, it took a lot of "trips", but many of the jaunts were 1/2 to hour stints where maybe 1-3 fish were caught. The average # of fish per trip is probably not that high. I will calculate it around the December timeframe if I have time. __________________ Posted by Bass Rat on 09-23-2003 07:12 AM: Huge, Good luck with the job prospect. I have thoroughly enjoyed all your reports and especially the photos. And yes, I am jealous, very. But in some weird way i felt like I did more fishing this year by reading your reports. Great job. You're a good sport about all the GQ ribbing. __________________ Powered by: vBulletin Version 2.3.0
