Near Maho Disaster
Turns into a Great Positive!!!!
You may have read the
thread about how they screwed us at the Maho marina...
PLUS: I left a
phone message and implored them to call me back, because they had the answering
machine on later in the day, and they didn't have the balls to return my
call....their Loss: I will NEVER use Maho for a get together again,
PERIOD!!
Called up Whaley Marina and by some miracle Domenick, the owner
, picked up the phone: "Sure, come right over I will go and open the
gate!".....
and why not, on what would have been a sleepy mid week day
for him, a caravan of 13 boats pulled in to make his day.....he not only
discounted the launching fees, but him and his helpers also aided people to the
ramp, watching traffic on either side of the road......something you will NEVER
get at Maho in any form or shape......
in addition to those launch fees,
he did a hefty grill tab at this barbecue grill set up at the end of the day, so
here is to all who value money and to whom it means something if they make
some....something that is obviously lacking to the McDonalds, who run that
Marina as if they couldnt give a flying one......
Enough VENT: The
fishing was fabulous, every single boat caught prestigious
numbers.....
Johnny L and I got 60 into the boat and had a ton of fun in
doing it......we started shallow, fell back to deep, returned to shallow and
then ended on mid depth flats....a Potpourri of the usual Whaley
mayhem........all on the expense of Senkos, Thrashers, Snoozer tubes, Slider
worms and texas rig worms, along with a short but frenetic spinnerbait and
weedless spoon bite.....
we didnt have too much size, but did manage
quite a few 2 pound and up, along with just loads of action and fishing
fun.....
as for size: Basserachi pulled in a 4.7 and I believe that Bass
Hawg nailed a 4.1.....
I will let the others come on and tell their
stories, when I get around to it, I will put up a few interesting pictures that
I took.......
still fuming over the Maho Marina fiasco, and I have to
tell you, that it was not a good ending to what turned out to be one of the most
stressful get together plannnings ever, with so many last second cancellations
of both boaters and non boaters......the ramp thingy was the Coupe de Gras....

That sucks!!!! What
wussies!! John, I am sure I speak for everyone that we all appreciate the
enormous effort in which planning a event like this takes. Thank You!! Glad the
great turn around with some great fish... Pictures.. Hey, Don't you think that
the folks at McDouche's Marina were trying to send a blatant
message?? think about it.

John - Sounds like
everything worked out OK in the end! In spite of the detour and a couple of of
not getting to Wahley.
Mcdonalds has always been lousy , its just the only
game in town.
Glad to hear Whaley is still producing those numbers
though.
Wish i could have been there either way.

What a way to start a
morning! Meet up with John G & Johnny L at John's house not in the car 5 min
when the phone rings and it's Joe P telling us the ramp is not
open.
The move to Whaley did work out great, we should make it a
permanent one.
As usual one of the great things about the get togethers
is getting to fish with new people, today I had the pleasure of joining TVal in
his boat. Tim was a great host and we caught our share of fish, at least 35.
Most of our fish came from shaded cover but did pick up some on the weed flats
with everyone else. Had to endure catching 12 Pickerel before I picked up my
first Bass but hey it was fun. Of cause great to see the whole gang and catch
fish
Joe P
for the new boat
niceee!

JohnG,
Thank you oh so
much for putting this outing together. I probably don't realize half the work it
took to pull it off but boy did I have a good time. This was the first time I've
fished upstate, and the first time on a "real" boat. Without a doubt this was my
best day fishing ever. Leigh was a most gracious host, with smooth and accurate
boat handling skills. Even with three people on the boat there was never a time
that we all didn't have the opportunity to fish desired spots. Between the three
of us we had to boat 65-75 fish. Mostly small keepers with some up to 2 1/2 lbs.
For awhile I had a nice Rock Bass bite going. I've never caught one of those
before, cool little fish. Almost everything came on sliders and senkos, with
ScottC nailing a few on spinnerbaits. All in all a really great day. JohnG Thank
you. Leigh Thank you. Everyone else, Really good to see you.

I Think Today Was
Great All Around !!!
Hey John,
I was
gonna do this in private, but thanks so much for all that you did for this
event...I am especially grateful to be included as a non-boater...I know it's a
burden to make room for everyone, but you did an excellent job...
I think
it couldn't have worked out any better...I really had a great time at that
"sparring ground" of a lake...The fish were all over the place and there was
rarely a dull moment...Not a bad choice for a swealtering hot day...There was
ACTION...
I fished with Joe P and Pete (Basshunter)...We had the best
time...What a bunch of characters...We laughed all day long and caught at least
thirty fish apiece...I managed to catch a nice LM that went 4.7 lbs...After
being conditioned all day long to the generally smaller fish, a 4 lb 11 oz fish
was a very welcome, yet unexpected change for our boat...
It was all
about teamwork today...On the big fish, it went like this...First, Joe chased
John G off his buoy marker that marked the laydown where the fish was
holding...He told him that, "there are rocks, be careful, get out of there"...I
don't think John actually believed it, but he was just being courteous to our
"laughable squatters rights" and let us in without really working the
laydown...Then, when I hooked the fish, Joe was on the motor immediately and
positioned the boat perfectly, stopping the drift STAT, and allowing me to work
the fish out from under the tree with my 8 lb test XL...Then, Pete found the
net, and together they netted the fish for me as I "shit my pants"...It was a
great little moment for us and we congratulated each other a few times for our
efforts...That was the single most memorable moment, of many, that I have of a
great day...
It was also great to see all you other guys like John G,
Gregg, TVal, Mark G, Vic #1 and Vic #2, Rafael, Hugefish, Scott C, Gary Menchen
and the rest of the usual suspects...I met some of you other "loons" also that
were crazy enough to be out in this heat with me sharing a nice day of
fishing...Nice to meet ya !!!
I'll let Joe and Pete post about what
actually worked today and maybe someone can post a photo of that 4+ lber I
caught...
Joe, thanks again for having me on your beautiful boat and for
taking us out all day...You were a fine captain and a gracious host, not to
mention one hell of a fisherman...I noticed that whenever there was a lull in
the action, it was almost always you, who broke back into the action
first...Kudos...
And thanks again John...Today was special and I am very
appreciative...I'm glad you got to relax and finally fish after that ramp fiasco
at Maho...
Mark
No more McDonalds...From now on I only eat
at Burger King !!!

An excellent fishing day
with my new best friends, Basshunter ( Pete) and Basserachi (Mark)
today.
Fishing Whaley for the first time, I decided its all going to be
shade and heavy cover for the whole day, fishing wise. And the presence of weeds
reminded me of Forge in Riverhead which made me feel very comfortable,
LOL.
T-rigged senkos by Mark and Pete were catching the small keepers the
first hour tight to shore. The Brewers grub were working too. I was working the
mid depths on a spinnerbait with some feisty pickerels locked on to it.
Grabbed my pitching rod , a 4 inch BPS Flipping tube and in one cast, a
nice chunky LM. Proceeded to put away my other rods and stay with the tube. THe
bass were hitting it while I was shaking the tube at the bottom. THe better bass
were hitting between 5-10 ft in weeds. Started with a 5/16th sinker, then
changed up to a 3/8, trying to get that quick fall. Got a good workout hauling
those 2 lbers in the boat. Hell why not, Iwas using 17 lb P-line...
Mark and Pete joined the fun by switching to the tubes and happily
helped themselves to my 50 ct bag....vultures...
Later on the
day, we found some laydowns and brush which proved to be fish factories and
despite the commotions, the fish were still willing and biting.
Mark had
a whale of a fish strike his Tiki worm and just like a pro, handled that 4 lber
on light line with no problems. Good job, Mark, guiding that fish off the
laydown into open water.
You guys have got to see some of Mark's lure
collections. Exclusive and high end stuff. I can only drool as he started to
show off some of his prized stuff.
Pete is an excellent fisherman also
and can hold his own . I knew the first time we fished together at Candy that
this guy got skilzzz. A senko addict ( who's not), he can almost entice a bass
bite on every cast. Watch out, Baron...
Great thanks to our leader, John
G and despite the Mahopac fiasco, did not wither under pressure. The Whaley
decision was a good one.
Good to see the usual suspects. Special mention
goes to Noel and his lovely wife. To Gary Menchen who gave me tips on Copake
lake. To everyone else...very glad to meet you.
Lets do this
again....

Very
nice lake, Great day.
Great company, Joe P and Mark were kicking bass all
over that lake. That little lake hold bigger fish that some of us think, I got a
look at Vic's fish that thing was nice, good job man. I also witnessed Mark set
the hook on that 4.7 lbs and that was a nice fish GOOD JOB MARK!
John G,
I want to thank you for all of you're hard work. It was nice to see you and all

Glad to hear things
worked out for you guys!
Guess I shoulda stuck
around.
Knowing I had to leave early due to a night job I'm on
and then seeing the truck blocking the ramp at McDonald's, well I just figured
I'd cut my losses and bail. No way I was waiting until 9:00 to
launch.
That's not the first time they've done that to me. A few years
back I called ahead to see if the ramp would be open early on a Friday. They
assured me it would be........It wasn't.
My apologies to Rob "New
Guy" with whom I was supposed to fish. Glad to hear you found a ride with TTony
on Maho and got into some nice fish. I just assumed the whole get together was
gonna be a wash.

As we left the dock,
Gregg said that probably 50% of our catch would be pickeral He just didn't
figure the first half of his day would be all pickeral . But then the law of
averages kicked in, and the bass started coming, including that nice 3LB chunk
in the pix Gregg posted.
Thanks for a great day on the water buddy, and
sharing your knowledge of Whaley. Good seeing the rest of the NY Bass gang
again. And JohnG, as always, appreciate your effort to put this together, and
come thru in the clutch.

Well, I had the opportunity of
meeting and fishing with Kenny C. He made me a little nervous when we got on
Whaley and he immediately began banging out bass on that damn Senko thingy. I
was worried that I was actually going to have to put one on! LOL! Thank God that
I started nailing some on topwater. Ken also switched to topwater and we enjoyed
some brief, yet explosive topwater action. We then headed to the north end of
the lake and Ken continued his Senko onslaught; literally catch fish every other
cast. Luckily, I started joining in when a good t-rigged tube bite. Fish were
readily available....but this lake sure could use some "selective harvesting"!
We moved to the south end docks; which I am sure had been pounded already and
managed a few more, including this spider grub fish by Ken:

Too bad all of our fish
were around that size or smaller! LOL!
I switched to a Fat Albert Grub,
and I would have to say that my "better" fish came on that choice. The fast and
furious action slowed as the sun baked us, but fish were still caught. I had a
great time with Ken and his ballbusting attitude. He is so shy and softspoken.
LOL!
I managed to catch fish on Topwater, Tubes, Grubs, and a Fluke type
bait. I resisted the Senko temptation, although I see that the better fish were
caught on those dildos.
Ken...thanks again.

i had the pleasure of
fishing with noel (wnybassman) and his wife robin on their beautiful bass boat
and i have to say honestly that i haven't met 2 nicer people at nybass...just
tops in my book!... great conversation and plenty of fish!... i hope you 2 had a
safe ride home... robin got on the fish early, nailing several LM on a
spinnerbait while the guys were struggling to keep up...noel had a big LM on one
of his first casts that shook off, and at that point i had a good feeling we
would find fish... we started off working a weedy area in the shade, moved on to
shoreline structure and cover, then joined a bunch of others on a weedy flat...
we had no problem loading the boat up with small bass and picks, with a few
chunky 2lbers thrown in and a monster 27in pick... the weedy flat was stacked
with bass and it gave me the opportunity to pitch a jig for the first time and
land my first jig fish!... i would have stayed with the jig, but i was getting
frustrated with my baitcaster...so i switched to a tube and pitched that on my
spinner, nailing one fish after another... we tried to keep count, but lost it
in all the fun... i would say 20-30 each easy...
unfortunately, there
was no local restaurant to meet at afterwards, but we did meet briefly for dogs
and sodas at the beach to share fish stories... a great crew we have here at
nybass and i'm proud to be associated with it!
kudos to dominick at
whaley for being a great host and helping to make this outing happen!...we'll be
back!
down with mahopuke!...up with whaley!

The fo of War, blocked
boat ramps, shredded senkos
Well driving through the
fog with a stewing John G behind the wheel of a large SUV was an experience...
Gregg? Where are we again?
Well, after what I thought was going to be a
cluster$#@$ of a day due to the boat ramp, JohnG as usual comes through in the
clutch... Whaley was a great idea. What a blast! And I got to hear the message
he left for Macdonalds Marine-- what a hoot that was!!!
As usual, to fish
with John G is a phenomenal experience any day-- he is so pleasant and keeps
things light and is so accomodating to anyone who fishes with him... just makes
the day so much more enjoyable. He is a model for fishing partners and I so look
forward to days on the water with him.
As he said, we banged them up and
down that lake, and I loved the shallow-shady water bite, the deeper spoon bite,
and the constant action. After losing some early morning picks to the shredded
senkos (I'm going to Sports Auth to buy some more), we finally got into a few
shorelines where we just hammered the greenbacks... John G even landed a chunky
crappie on a spinnerbait.
Anyway, as usual well worth the day off from
work and meeting a bunch of you was great... Gregg as usual a
pleasure.
See my pic above.. that was my best... Basseraci, nice fish
man!!!
JG and I stil can't understand how we missed him-- I guess that's what
keeps us all fishing!!
Nice playing him into the boat... great
fish!

We even Cast to
him
We must have cast 4 or 5
x over that same log without even knowing it was marked (we thought the buoy was
for someone's mushroom or dock weight)... threw senkos and a small
tube.
Until you guys nursed us off that spot (
), I bet we
would've gone back over that shoreline... hey basshunter, I hear that shoreline
far away from this marker buoy is pretty good fishing(LOL!)
I couldn't
stop talking about that the rest of the day... couldn't figure it out. What did
he land him on? Why didn't he hit our offering... only explanation is that we
both SUCK
Even funnier, I kept telling JG that we were going to
get a 5#r on that shoreline... it just looked fishy.... shade, laydown, backbay,
etc.
I knew a bigun was there-- glad you guys landed him, but can't
figure out how we missed him... in all seriousness, JG and I are pretty thorough
when we fish spots...
As I said I guess we just suck
Congrats again!! awesome fish to land...

HATS off to John G (no
pun intended) for salvaging the day and bringing us to a great numbers lake like
Whaley. I had the pleasure of having Broadbill & Scotty C on board with me
for the day. A better pair of partners I could not have asked for. We had a
great day and a lot of laughs together. We even caught a few fish. My guess is
upwards of 80 bass, 20+ picks, a few red eyes and Frank even nailed a nice
crappie.
The cookie cutter pattern of bass was on as the majority were in
the pound and a quarter to pound and a half size. Frank did manage a real nice
2.5 - 2.75 and another 2 that were better than 2lbs. Scott and myself also had a
couple that were 2 or a bit better. Most were senko fish although Scott did hit
a few on a spinnerbait. All in all a great day of fun, SUN, and
fishing.
I know I posted this on another related thread, but I would
really like to hear what excuse McDumbs#*t's had for not being open. Kudos again
to John for saving the day!
Scott and Broadbill--where are we going
next?
I also had the pleasure of traveling up and back from the lake with
Wild Bill, a great fisherman and travel companion. Bill thanks again....we need
to get out fishing as well!

What Mcdonalds did you
John G was wrong. Period. But the class guy that he is and his knowledge of
local waters brought us to this nice little lake. Thank you John for enduring
all the stresses of putting this together...dealing with the BS...and then
pulling off yet another successful NYBASS get together.
LPBASSMAN (Leigh)
couldnt have been a more gracious host. 3 "Whaley Whales" on his boat and not a
moment when by where he wasnt sharing his knowledge of the place and positioning
us so that we all had a chance at great casting targets. I was in the back and
at times the last to cast to a spot and when we pulled up to a dock that looked
bassy (what didnt) I asked why he hadnt casted to it and he said something to
the effect of.... I cant take all the spots...or I left that one for
you......either way the message was clear that he was a considerate fisherman,
willing to share his spots and knowledge so that we all would enjoy ourselves. I
was trememdously impressed with that. Other than the company and the incredible
numbers these were my personal highlights of the day. Besides knowing John G
!
1) Being a guest Leighs boat. Nice smooth ride.....I was impressed.
2) Enjoying the boyish look on Franks face when he took his first ride on a
real bass boat and fishing an upstate lake. Then catching a record number of
fish and boat lunker.
3) Getting a very special home made gift from my
friend Noel and his wife. Two beautiful souls. Thank you both.
4) The three
of us 40 plus "Whaley Whales" getting far enough away from the crowd to feel
comfortable taking our shirts off LOL
5)Seeing all the great people that
make up my list of fishing buddies....what a great group. (Even my Arabian
friend)
6) Sharing the joy with Mark G at the end of the day when
he announced that he didnt puke once !!! That was classic.
7) Touching "The
Watch" And speaking to its owner......finally !
8) Having the satisfaction
that I made enough sandwiches for my friends.....
9) No dead
squirrles....although we did rattle their nuts a bit.
and
finally.....
10) Having to prop up Franks sleeping body while driving on the
LIE so I can use the HOV lane and bypass THOUSANDS of rush hour traffic vehicles
!!! Thanks buddy !
All in all a great day with great
people..........
Soon Leigh..................soon !
Thaks to
all again for making this such a special place.......

A Day
of Firsts and Seconds
First off, let me thank
John G for setting the outing up, and scrambling to save the day after the
launch ramp fiasco. Whaley proved to be a great numbers lake, with a cow or two
thrown in to keep our expectations high. I also want to thank Chris (Jet300) for
having us on his boat. Chris was the consummate host, putting us on fish,
sharing his techniques and his tackle, and doing everything possible to
accomidate us. He is as low pressure and laid back as you'll find, even letting
me run the trolling motor despite having never done it before (more on that
later).
As for the firsts and seconds...
My second NYBass outing
was supposed to be my first time on Mahopac, but as you all know, it didn't work
out that way. Instead it was the first NYBass Caravan across the Hudson Valley
to Whaley Lake. By the time we got to Whaley it was a bit too late for a good
topwater bite, but we did manage a blow up or two on poppers/spittin image jrs.
I don't remember if we actually landed a topwater fish or not, because we
proceded to catch close to 60 fish for our three (actually 4) man boat team.
Westarted banging the shoreline, picking up fish on Senkos, Slider
Grubs, and Slider Worms. Before too long, Chris's good friend TubeKing(Dennis)
motored over and unfortunately had had car trouble on the way over. We all
agreed that he and Chris would go try to get Dennis's car fixed. They motored
off on Dennis's boat, after leaving Steve on our boat. Having a collective 0
manhours working a trolling motor between the three of us, it was very trusting
of Chris to let us man the ship. I ended up on the front of the boat and had a
blast running the boat. Bass boats are incredible to fish from, and
Chris's Skeeter is no exception. Unfortunatle the experience has changed the
time table on my plans to buy a bass boat from the distant and unforseeable
future to tomorrow
.
We caught a few
more fish banging the shoreline. Nothing spectacular, but quite a few fish. I
spent a bit more time learning the tolling motor while trying to keep the boat
parallel to the shoreline so we could all cast well. At one point Vic (Bass
Hawg) got his spinnerbait hopelessly caught in a tree. I got him close to it,
but not close enough as I wasn't too comfortable in water less than 3' deep. I
didn't think we would be able to get it until Vic said the hell with it and
jumped in after it
! I was a bit jealous,
as I could have used a swim in all that heat!
Anyway, Chris returned
soon after and we traded him back for Steve. Chris then took us out to a long
flat off a point. It didn't look like much, but the fish were there. We were
getting them on Slider worms and Senkos, both t-rigged and wacky rigged. All
three of us were banging the cookie cutter Whaley bass pretty steadily, until
Vic hooked into a drag puller. With all the weed clumps it picked up he wasn't
sure how big it was until we got a look at it...but when we saw it we new it was
not the typical Whaley cookie cutter bass. After a short fight, we got it in the
boat. It was gut hooked, but thanks to a technique I have been using on NYBass
(I'll repost about it in tackle and tactics) we got the hook out without hurting
the fish.
The bass turned out to be 4lbs. 6oz. on my Rapala digital
scale! Far and away the lunker for our boat. Great team effort by our boat, as
Vic hooked her using a wacky rigged 5" senko in plum/blue flake on a 1/0 Gammy
circle hook, both provided by Chris, while I helped land the fish for
Vic...nearly dunking myself in the process! On second thought, I probably should
have let Vic handle it himself
. Great fish, Vic! I'm
glad one of the few big fish yesterday was caught by you!
We stayed on
that flat for most of the rest of the day, saying hi to everyone who stopped by
to take advantage of the action, including Noel, Noel's wife (wnybasswoman?) and
Mike D, John G and Johnny L, Joe P, Basserachi and Basshunter and TVal and
Gregg. Watching Noel, Mike and Mrs. Noel catch a billion fish on that flat was
amazing. It seemed like their pole were bending every minute.
The small
barbq stand at the launch allowed me to get some more firsts, including my first
time meeting and chatting up HugeFish4, Noel and Mrs. Noel, Joe P,
TubeKing(Dennis), Pete (Basshunter), Kenny C and others I'm sure I'm forgetting
to mention. It was also nice to see some people for the second time, including
Gary Menchen, The Hat, JPBass, Scott C, and again, others I am forgetting. And
finally it was great to see the usual suspects like Basserachi, John G, Gregg,
Vic, Ralph, and Paul M briefly in the morning. L Ron Senko, we'll catch up soon!
All in all a great day on the water!
Mark

Man, oh
man!
From the sounds of it,
the day turned out really nice dispite Maho.
I've never made a nybass outing
but I will try to make the next one. You guys are just having to much fun. I'm
jealous as hell.
Aside from putting faces to names, being able to fish with
people who have different knowledge and learning new techniques.
John G
sounds like everyone was happy at the end of the day. Its too bad you had to go
thru that aggrevation.
When's the next one?
You had once talked
about getting together at FDR, any interest there?

Mr.
Sandman
Glad to hear I wasn't the
only one who had trouble staying awake on the ride home. That heat just fried my
circuits. After a quick shower and bite to eat, settled in for a short nap (2+
hours)
Woke up to yelling that our strictly indoor cat Thomas had attacked a
bug on the window screen and knocked it and himself outside. Totally expecting
to be chasing him through tick infested woods for half the nite, I said a quick"
thank you God "after one lap around the house, found the cat really scared and
just waiting to be brought inside.
Hope everyone else made it home safely.
Wouldn't want Noel's and Robin's drive.
Again, A super outing with the NYBass
bunch. I too wished a post fishing pizza was available, so there would be time
for conversation. An today, I got to answer those angry work related voice
messages on my cell, that I chose to ignore yesterday. Why spoil a good day
fishing.

that food stand served some of the best cheese burgers Ive had
in a long time..lol
as great as the fishing is, that ramp is an accident
waiting to happen...
Gotta give it to Hugefish...the senko bite was the #
1 fish producer that day....and still...he didnt budge a bit...
That
NYBass Caravan must have been a sight to see on 84....
Driving to Mahpac,
Pete ( Basshunter) was just telling me the story of how he went to Mahopac early
one day, only to find out that the ramp was blocked. As we got to the marina
around 3:45 am, guess what? The ramp was blocked ...

GREAT
TIME!!
Special thanks to John
G, Jet300, MikeD, and MarkG
This trip was educational
in so many different ways. I learn new techniques, new lures, and a new way to
remove a hook from a gutted bass. I fished with Jet300 and MarkG. Jet300 was the
greatest host. He showed me how to wacky rig a senko and taught me how to fish
the slider worm. WOW! I really need to buy some slider worms, more senkos and
circle hooks!! They killed!! Actually, I almost did kill the 4lber I caught
yesterday. If it wasn t for MarkG's gutting technique, that guy would of been
belly up. Later on the day..MarkG, Steve P and I did some fishing with MarkG
working the trolling moter for the first time. Jet300 had to help Tubeking with
some car issues (brakes). Anyway, MarkG did an excellent job and put us on some
nice fish. All in all I had a great time. Plus, I even got a ride back to
Manhattan from MikeD. Thanks! I hope I didn t delay you too much. Everyone was
soo pleasant! I can't wait till the next one!!

What a day!
My
right wrist is killing me, my thumb is like sandpaper
I'm
sitting here looking at the photos and thinking about it and it was a day to
remember.
It was such a good day that I forgot all about the obstruction
at the dock, sometimes things are done or just happen for a reason.
all
this was because of the people that I had the pleasure of spending the day with,
I'm not only talking about the two fine gents on the boat that I was on, but all
the boats you guy's and gal are truly fine people.
oh my phone is ringing
it must be some guy that wants to go fishing well an ace bandage on my wrist and
it off to the lake be back soon...thanks to all.

Joe, actually you guys
didn't realize it...but the t-rigged grub had the best bite going. LOL! I'm sure
if everyone on the lake were throwing grubs some bigger fish would have been
landed on that technique as well! LOL!

The
NY Bass Outing...on Whaley
First off, key me preface
my remarks to thank John G for putting this whole event together despite all the
last minute changes of boaters and non-boaters/the fiasco of the Mc'Dock
situation/the additional ride to Whaley/and the blazing heat.
I would also
like to thank Ligh for both giving me a ride there to Mahopac/Whaley, and home
again, with a little side tour of the Hudson River, to boot on the ride
home.
Also, I would be totally remiss if I did not thank my two host boaters,
Dean, who I spent the early part, and bulk of the day with, and John G as well,
as I was transferred to his boat when Dean had to leave early for home. Dean and
I went toe to toe, bass for bass, all long with each of us boating 30 or more
LMs, plus a few pics each, plus some rockies to boot. I truly enjoyed sharing
the day with Dean, as he quite the angler.
When Dean had enough of me { LOL}
, I was transferred onto John G's boat for some additional time to fish, and
again, I had a great time with them too.
This was my first NYBass fishing
outing, and it was truly a wonderful experience in so many ways, especially
meeting so many of you again, or some for the first time.
Thanks again to all
!!!
Someday, hopefully, I will see what Mahopac has to offer, as I have been
hearing of this lake for nearly a decade now. [Sigh]

School was in session.
On behalf of my brother
Ralph and myself we want to thank John G for the effort and time he puts into
getting these things together....ANOTHER GREAT JOB ! We had the pleasure of
being the guests of Gary Menchen on his beautiful Ranger boat....god i love
those boats, Gary is as nice a person as you could ever meet, and boy can he
fish. we all got fish which always good and the company was great. We tried a
bunch of different baits, but when Gary went into his tackle and got that black
jig with something or other on the back.....OH MY GOD ! Gary nailed fish after
fish after fish...and they were all good size fish....not the dinks most of us
caught. I will post 3 of his pictures...you will see what i mean, Ralph was a
pickeral magnet..lol Towards the end of the day Gary found a very defined weed
edge and threw some bouys to mark the edge...that paid off big time as our first
2 casts got 2 fish.... there were more where those came from. Thank you Gary for
a great fishing outing and it was a pleasure spending the day with you. Hey
gary............ JIG EM UP, JIG EM UP , JIG EM UP. lol.

So sorry to hear about
the mishaps at McDonald's! It seems to me that they always used to treat you
regulars very well. I guess they have slipped.
Glad it worked out for
those who were able to fish. As I recall last year, just about everyone was on
quality fish, but it seems like this year was more productive. At least there
was that!
You guys are too much!

Whaley was FUN !!!
I had a good time and
it was a pleasure to fish with John A.K.A. Hugefish 4, I guess you guys were at
Whaley for a while after fishing was done I really had to leave only to be stuck
in traffic from some idiot with a Sailboat on a huge trailer that was stuck
under an overpass right in the middle of the construction mess.
John G.,
thank you for your quick thinking, you saved the day with your contact to
Domenick at Whaley. I wish I could have stayed longer.
I think Hugefish needs
to get used to a guy like me, I say pretty much whatever is on my mind and I am
somewhat of a Ballbuster, just ask the guy I fish with alot from Outcast,
Chrisbooze, he will tell you about me !!!
I really enjoyed fishing with you,
John, and let me tell everyone, THIS GUY CAN FISH, even without using a Senko, I
think he actually had more fish than I did, although I think on Mahopac he would
have put that Senko on his hook !!!
By the way that fish I am holding in the
picture Hugefish posted was about 8 lbs. it just looks small because I am so BIG
!!!

Apologies to all the
gang. That was the first trip I ever had to cancell. But, family comes first. I
think my wife was worse off that I had to miss a fishing trip and messed it up
for Frank too than I was. Well, spiders do nasty things. She was lucky it was
not a deer tick. She had the target and everything along with the pain. The good
thing she is ok and she got an early DR. appt.
As the day went on I called
postcard and we went to Orange lake to pull in at least 5 fish
over 3#+ with franks 4 pounder+ to be the largest. The bite was on and we had a
chance to experiment with multiple handpoured baits that we created. With
probably around 20 bass with multiple baits is outstanding with all legal sized
fish with no picks and no dinks. The inside pads baby!!John G call me and we
will get together for a ball.

I haven't had the chance
to really get on here and post a lengthy account of our day on wednesday, but
thanks again John G. I had an awesome time fishing with Wild Bill and would do
it again in a heartbeat. Bill, you're always welcome. Thanks for the laughs and
good conversation. I could have left all my other rods at home as I pretty much
threw senkos all day. Caught a ton of fish and had a real ball. It was
definitely a great alternative to Mahopac. I hope to make the next get together
whenever that will be. It was a pleasure meeting some new people and seeing the
old faces as most have already mentioned. Thanks again John G. Super Job!!
