WOW!! What a Get Together at Maho!!!

Another great meeting of NyBass.com members, a great weather day, big turnout, few surprises and everybody caught fish.....

Now, Fishing has been a little tougher there of late and the numbers did not approach last years by a longshot, however, a lot of guys did very well, and they will each come on and tell their story..

Hugefish already has made an excellent post with great pictures, I am just to exhausted to even think about downloading from the camera now...

The Pizza Dinner was just fantastic as usual, everybody eating and laughing and drinking tons of fluid, it was a hot one out there today and a gallon of fluid fit the bill!!

Finally got to meet the one and only BassinDude, Tony Morganti, some other new faces for me, HVBassmaster, Scott C, Northbass, another Kenny ( he is in Bass Rat's Outcast Club), and Bill G from Connecticutt in his oversized 16 foot canoe....

and last but not least, the lovely Meg, who is simply a winner and had a great time both on the water catching fish and laughing it up at the Dinner...

I will be back tomorrow with Pictures and more details about techniques, something that really should be dissected on here as the best pattern was figured out by a few "lucky" anglers and resulted in some nice catches....

JOHN G

Turtle taxi at your service...

The day was great even if the fishing wasn't. We had about 15 fish divvied up by the four different people on the boat (not all at once) It was great to see old board friends and meet some more board members today. Will be back on tomorrow with more to say when I'm not so tired, but will leave you with a picture or two.
Lunker of the day for the boat.

Correction John, Not everyone caught fish. I got skunked once again. I did enjoy the day tyhough and it was a good time fishing with HV. It was good to see all the guys ( and our resident lady fisherwoman ) who showed up and my thanks to Woody. He knows why. I'll post the pitures of HV's fish as soon as I get them developed. Glad you guys had a good time afterwards too. I wish I could have met with you but I had to get home early.

another great get-together!...wow!...the weather was great and there were no surprises... it was so nice to meet more NYBASSers, including the lovely meg and the WNY crew, and to hang with all the usual suspects... what a nice bunch of people!...patX and mikeyD were missed, although mikeyD did make a brief appearance to drop off his boat... i want to mention everyone by name who was there, but there were so many!

i would like to take a moment to thank paul mattie for a terrific time on the water...paul has a beautiful ranger and we fished comfortably with jeff on her all day...paul is a real, real nice guy...very generous and patient...and an awesome topwater fisherman!...he taught me some new techniques and let me operate the boat from the front although i had never done it!...what a guy!... we had a lot of laughs out there and i look forward to fishing with paul again (hint, hint)

and jefflang BVS...i am gonna have to come up with a new name for him..."baron" is just not adequate...i think i had it right the first time when i coined the nickname "lord senko"...between him and paul, i was taken to school!... man o man, at times i felt like a little girl learning to fish with a zebco out there!...these two guys are AWESOME fisherman and landed the majority of the 25+ fish on our boat!...paul with his "all-day" topwater and lord senko with his "zen" senko technique...it was a beautiful thing watching these guys at work and humbling also!...at least i have something to look forward to!

all in all, i couldn't have asked for a better day and nicer guys to fish with...well, a few more fish for me would have been nice;p... i'll post about the techniques that did work for me on the other thread and will leave here with a picture of jeff and two of his beauties.

tune in to NYBTV for video highlights later today!

Another great Get together

We (paul, Mike DNYC) launched at 5am. Right away Paul started slamming the SM on topwater. I was throwing a senko and snoozer tube and mike was working top water. Before 8 Paul had 7 nice SM and Mike had A nice fish. I had one Big LM on a senko. After we went back to the dock at 8 we headed for the "Big island" We worked are way aroud and managed good fish on all the Rock flats" 6-12'water. I ended with 13 fish over the day all on senko's With the biggest a 5lb lm, and a 4lbsm. The fish where not taking the senko on the drop all my fish where caught "Poping or Twitching" Senko. It was great to meet all the new board member and see the all the old time member's
Thank you paul for the great day! and Thank You John for putting this day together!!

Looks like everyone had a great time. Nice stories have already started and some wonderful pictures - the smile's tell it all.

Some people traveled a great distance to meet for the first time - that speaks volumes on how great a group the NYBASS site is.

It doesn't get any better than meeting with old friends, making new friends and then throw in a day on the water.

John G. has obviously done a great job once again by putting this event together. I am looking forward to meeting him and everyone some day.

I would have been there this year if it wasn't for the enormous work load - NO COMPLAINTS = $$$$$$.

Great job John G. - congratulations.

LOL !!

Ok here goes from my perspective. First I have to thank John G for mastering this site which I stumbled across. Next is Robbie (Theole34) for starting the bass club that introduced me to many great people including Nick (BassRat). Next I have to thank Nick for hooking up his friend Kenny C to our site. And last but certainly not least I have to thank Kenny C for offering to take me out in his fine Ranger. What a ride ! If it wasnt for Nick and Kenny I would most likey not have been able to get out there. Thank you both very very much ! (Kenny there is still one more sandwich with your name on it)

Kenny, Robbie, and myself thought we we going to figure this pattern out before long. In fact we did attack the areas where the fish were aparently suspending but had less results than some. It was one of those days for us...... We managed 4 good bass all LM and some rockies and smallie dinks that were almost smaller than the offerings !! Robbie had 2 breakoff's on Power Pro...we saw one of the fish and it was NICE....but snapped his head and was gone....along with the terminal end of the line. Regardless of the amount of fish we caught we had a good time and fished very comfortably on Kenny's Ranger.
Kenny, you were more than nice to back into, out of, over and around to get our various offerings out of the snags. Probably saved me $25 in crap ! Thanks. And Mike D........he let me work the boat from the front too !!!!! First time as well for me.....It will be in my "what I did on my summer vacation" report .

Good company...well organized (thanks again John and all involved), good weather, overall good time !!
Kenny...you are "the man" .
Thanks again Nick for all you did as well.....it was most appreciated.
Robbie.....you are becoming a good fishing buddy thanks for the laughs man.

BERNIE ....I got your voicemail !! You were missed my friend....we thought about you alot....told your fish story a few times as well ! Thanks for the thoughts yesterday....I will call you tonight or tomorrow.

I know I am forgetting something............oh yeah Mike D.....nice job with the wears !!!

and Meg..........................please take that god awefully hot sweater off in 85 degree weather !!!!!!!!!!!!

It may be winter still where you live but its almost summer here !!

It's sad that I can never get to these outings. I wish I could during the week, but when you work in the financials it's hard. Maybe, one weekend I will get an invite by a boater to fish for a day. I look forward to it. Lunch on me!

Great day by all and John you're da man!

Meg pretty smile, we can use all the sweetness and good looks.

Nice to see Everybody

I would like to take this oppurtunity to thank John G for once again bringing together such a fine group of folks.
It was amazing to meet up with the folks up North...You are all INSANE for your commitment....
My saga of "bad luck" continued in the am but was negated when I had the pleasure of "Hooking Up" with Cast-A-Way.
George is a very humble person and in contact I have heard what an awesome season he had last year and this year.
The reason....He is an amazing fisherman !!!!!!!!!
I had the good fortune of fishing with some VERY talented fisherman and George was added to the list yesterday.
George showed me several different techniques and was always probing and disecting any water we were on until he caught fish.(Trolling Mahopac made it difficult for us to hit many spots and I am sure if we had some Gas power George would have boated many more.) George I want to thank you for a memorable day on the water and look forward to taking you back on my "other" boat.
Cast-A-Way has a good soul....
I also want to thank everyone at the dock for helping out in the time of need. (You know who you are)
I am sorry I didn't get a chance to hang with more people but it can get hard with such a large group.
I will let George discuss his gameplan....Mine was pretty non-existant.
Seeing old faces and meeting new ones is what NYBass is all about.
To all my "old" friends and my "new" ones...See ya next time.
Tight Lines,
Woody

not power pro scott - i love power pro
this stuff was brand new roll of spiderline super mono 10lb. it snapped under shock 3 times yesterday. i couldn't break it when snagged, but if a fish turned snap. above the hook, using double palomar on gammie circle, and gammie 1/0 offset worm hook, and ewgs.

nice pics.
rob j took a ton of pics, and i expect we will see them soon.

Mike D as always is up for a good time and he managed to land one of the better lgmouths of the day. I had to leave to pick my kid up from school so I missed the pizza, but the first beer I had at home tasted pretty darn good.

It's nice reading all these posts...As mentioned many times yesterday was a great day. Thanks again John, flawless day!! It was great seeing the old familiar faces and it was great meeting some new ones..JoeP., First Lady of Bass Meg, J.P. and everyone I'm forgetting.

For those of you who have not had the good fortune of meeting Woody....too bad. All of you guys who know him know what I mean. He was the most gracious host I think I've ever been on the water with. The reason he didn't have a good fishing day(aside from fishing w/ trolling motors) was because he was to busy trying to put me on fish. No B.S.. A TRUELY GREAT guy who I really look foward to spending more time with.

We did manage to catch a few. I caught a total of 8 (4SM&4LM) fish all 2 1/2lbs. and up. I caught 6 on Senkos and 2 on a spinnerbait. Woody put us on some good spots and we managed to get a good a.m. drift were I caught 2 quick spinnerbait fish. We then hit the back shallow cove..nothing. We decided to test the trolling motors and anchor and head to the flat off the first island. We anchored up in 9ft of water and fished the 9-15 foot range. I managed to pick up 4 niiice smallies on Senkos. One of the fish was suspended and hit the Senko on the drop, about 3ft. under the surface. The other 3 were on the bottom. Great fights. I LOVE those smallies...

Woody my friend..THANKS again for a great day and I look foward to doing it again SOON..(what do I owe you for writing that stuff about me????)...I'm looking foward to the next get together...

I had looked foward to this day for a long time. (ever since I missed last years outing.

The day was absolutely beautiful. The weather, fishing & people where outstanding.

Of course thanks to John G. the P.I.T.Ass motorator who did a great job. Always a pleasure talking to you.

My travel boyz Scott C & Theole, I always have a good time with you phsycos.

Kenny C, as usual you stepped up to the plate & hooked up a couple of good guys. (They could of got a brother a beer though)

My homie Dean, always good see you.

Pete L., you are a little sick, let's just leave it at that.

EW and Northbass, sorry I didn't get to talk to you more. Don't let Robbie program the GPS.

JPbass, alwaya a class guy.

MikeyD aka: francis ford bassala, nice job with the goods.

Nice meeting you Joe Pido, maybe we can fish someday.

Woody, we gotta fish together. I only met you 2 times, but you seem like an old freind to me.

Falls , good luck with that new boat.

Paul Matte, sorry we didn't get a chance to meet.

TTony, Greg, commuter, billG, Bob ,bobn,Vic nice meeting you guys.

Now, as for my boating partners, What a day!!!!!!!!!!!!!! First off I can't beleive you sick F's drove all that way.
It was all good yesterday with you 2. RobJ, you gotta learn to open up and work on that shyness. Word of advise Rob, don't drink coffe & back off on the sugar intake.

Meg, you are a true proffesional. Meg went about picking off fish like a sharp shooter. Cool, no fuss, quite and confident.

Both my partners are quality fishers. I would fish with these 2 anytime. (prefferably if RobJ had larengitis).

Thanks for sharing the day with me folks.

what a bunch of crap!!!

Hey, let's all hold hands and sing Kumbaya. Gezz, what f'ing garbage.

The next time John (hugefish4) will be near my boat, it will be under it. This freaking guy never shuts up!

Then there's Tony (Basin Dude). This guy was fishing wiht this weird setup that looked like a TV Areal antena and kept bitching about being on the back of the boat!

If that wasn't enough, we had John G poaching all of our spots. Christ, I think if we had pulled our boat up to Flanigan's restaurant, John would have gotten there 15 seconds before we did and ordered what I wanted from the menu! And for God's sake, will you clam the hell up about that friggin brewer's grub? IT's just a miniature fluke for cryin' out loud.

And don't get me started on Woody. This guy is like a black cloud. IT took everything I had to keep him away from my boat. He's like the opposite of King Midas...any boat he comes near gets destroyed one way or another. And Jesus...buy a guy a beer some time, will ya?

Then I had to sit down and eat next to Robbie (theole34). I thought the pizza had too much garlic and the NY's finest pulls one of those damned Snoozer tubes out of his pocket (smelled more like he pulled it out of somewhere else). Ruined my whole damned meal. Then like an idiot, I invite him and his father to go fishing with me. I was just being nice and then he ACCEPTED. Now what the hell am I gonna do?

I won't even go into how brain dead those poor souls from
West NY are for driving all that way (sorry to have to crack on Tony more than once but he is in this group too). Get a life, huh? Aren't there any lakes out in the sticks where you all live?

Did I leave anyone out? Oh well, I guess I'm running out of roast material.

All kidding aside...

What a terrific day with a great bunch of people. I only wish I am able to take at least one day with each of you to fish Mahopac when it's alittle calmer and better conditions.

I hope I got my guys on enough fish...I really tried my best. 17 decent bass in the boat with a smattering of various other species looked to be pretty good for yesterday.

If anyone didn't have the patience to get here to the end of my post, I'll draft and quick one to let them know this was a joke.

God bless.

SmileA few thank ya's for a kickin' day...

I will get a detailed report out, with pics, soon. Just been too busy today with sleep and reel repair! LOL!

First off, I want to thank John G and those who worked with him for pulling this off on such a relatively short notice. With just a little over a month to plan, things went very smoothly and the turnout was great. So was the weather!

Also, huge thanks out to Todd Miller from Susquehanna Snoozers Baits for generously offering enough of his sensationally stinky tubes for everyone present to get a full pack or two. That was a class thing to do, Todd.

Thanks go to MikeDinNYC for the nice chrome decals, as well as the nice NYBass T-Shirts and caps. I got 2 shirts and a hat and they look great. They will be a mainstay for many of my fishing days and definitely the future NYBass Get-Togethers! His efforts with NYBass and NYBTV are most appreciated.

Nick the BassRat was hilarious company! He is definitely down with the Ol' Skool! There was never a dull moment with him and I would say that if you think he's a riot on this board, you have not yet seen this man 'in full effect mode'! Thanks for the boat ride your trusty Ranger. It is a beautiful boat.

It goes without saying that driving down with our resident "Queen of Bass", Meg, was so fun that I would do it again and again if need be. This gal can fish with the best of anglers, and she's got a sense of humor that kept me smiling the whole time with her. She can skip those senkos down deep like a pro, too. I've fished with her before and I can tell you that she is as addicted to fishing as any other crazed angler out there. Meg, I really enjoyed the time.

I met so many of people who I've only known online for years. The pizza dinner afterward was a hoot. What a time!

Tight Lines...

Great Day

For my first meeting with NYBass I just wanted to say what a great bunch of guys I met yesterday it was an awsome get-together. I just wish I had a photographic memory because meeting 25+ guys (and Meg) at once was a little overwhelming. The weather was great and the fishing wasn't too bad either, the fish made me work for the 5 I did get. Kudos to John G. for putting this together. Had a few laughs chowing down pizza with Hugefish4, Mike D, Vic, and Jeff (or BVS). Since I have an odd work schedule and seeing the great turnout for this during midweek gives me confidence that finding someone to fish with on a week day should be no problem. Thanks to all.

Vic, lets fish
Cross River soon, or since we both have boats there we should try to put something together with 2 other guys.

Well thank you all for a GREAT time. John Proto, and Joe Pito were great company they have a great sense of humor and boy can they skip a Senko. And that boat is the fastest I have been on since I was 18. What a great morning we had. First spot we stop first cast I catch a nice lg mouth. Its too bad they had to leave early allthough I understand they had traffic to deal with. I know how that traffic can be on Long Island.

As for the afternoon I had a chance to get out on the infamous turtle with two more great guys. Glen was a great skipper putting us up tight to the fish. On our way out of the marina we hit a couple of docks I hit my largest fish of the day a lg mouth 2-3 lb . Our retired mailman (who`s name I have unfortunately forgotten)was awefully quiet so I did not get to know him very well but there is always next time.

Well thats all for tonight except to the guys who took pics of my fish could you please post them or preferably Email them to me. Because mine wont get developed for two or three weeks.

Thanks again to everybody for making it a great day.

Just An Awesome day !

Man oh man ! I look forward to the annual Mahopac get-together every year......and everyone knows why. It is so awesome to see all the familiar faces, and to meet new people. This year i was paired up with Dean......I dont know what to say about this guy, Dean was more concerned about my fishing than he was about catching fish himself. I am so grateful buddy. Hey John

I'm pretty sure Vic said he was going sometime this weekend or possibly both days, unfortunately I'll be working this weekend but may be able to make it 6/27 or 6/28, the weekend (29th and 30th) I'll be working nights so if I do go it would have to be in the evening around 4pm.

I'll let you know, at least a couple days in advance.

TalkingFinally I get the chance

Let me just say this......

I had a great time meeting everyone and was glad our WNY friends made it downstate. John as always my friend thanks, Pete L, I will be taking your real estate and financing advise.

The fishing was not what I go to these things for as much as meeting and seeing my NYBass friends, thank god for that as the fishing was not the best I have seen there, only once before has Maho disappointed me as far as fish and that was at the very first get together (yes Jeff L, I did it again this year with a 6 inch smallmouth, that's all I caught)

I am just glad everyone had a good time and was safe.

Unfortunately I forgot the combined list of numbers in my van in the morning, hurrying to grab gear for myself and helping my buddy Woody out with TM, battery and PFDs to get Woody and George afloat.....Ooops....MY BAD!!! Sorry boys and girls, right now I would lose my head if it was not attached, just too much going on these days.

It did work out though that most people on John's list all were on separate boats.

If I do not get out anymore this season (which I doubt) let me say this, you all made it a great one!!!! Thanks

I dont know I think its all those paint fumes I have been inhaleing ( I am a painter for those who didnt know it.) I just have the hardest time remembering names. Sorry to BOB and GREG I will have to try harder I guess. The other thing is, I get a LITTLE fog on the brain when I am fishing cant think or focus on anything else.

This is long overdue,

but $#@! happens! I had a wonderful time meeting everyone and look forward to the next one.

Nick, you are the most gracious of hosts, and you're really funny too! I really enjoyed fishing with you, and I also got to learn a few new words, one in particular! I hope you will venture north at some point so the hospitality can be returned. You made a true believer out of me in regards to the wacky- rigged senko.

Rob has already posted about our trip down, so I won't go into that in depth, but it was fun. Please stop referring to yourself in the third person!

John G, I had a completely different perception of you. For some reason ( perhaps due to the deleting capabilities of our four fingered friend!), I thought you were going to be this macho hard a#s. Instead, I was so very happily surprised. You are SUCH a sweetie! If it weren't for you and your hard work, this site would be non existant. Thank you.

Craig, Scott and Rob, my dinner partners, thank you for the stimulating conversation (And the adult beverages-they were lovely). It was fun! I am expecting to see you guys up here sometime! Well, Rob, with the baby on the way, you have an excuse for a little while...

Robbie Theole, Nice to meet you at last!

Pete L, what can I say?! You rock! My son is in awe that I finally met you (isn't youth kind!), and actually got to be in a picture with you.

MikeD, thanks for the shirt, and your computer tips. Yes, I was being WAY too impatient, once I waited for the movie to load, it worked well. You are very kind.

Gregg, it was very nice meeting you, next time let's chat more!

Joe Pido, love those Falcons!!!!

Woody, Jeff-senko-man, Scott E, Tony (by the way, nice post!), Tony from
Buffalo (stop peeing on the motors!), Paul Mattie, Noel, Butch, Vic, Bob, and anyone that i forgot (advanced age=memory loss), I enjoyed meeting you.

Well guys, we came down there, how about coming up here sometime?
