About Jeff's Wampus Barbecue Today!!

Just some special words for a special person in my life:

there are few people as warm and friendly and easy to laugh with as Jeff the Senko Baron, as all those who have fished with him know, and I must add that anyone who has been to one of his impromptu barbecues like this, also see the very generous side of him....

I mean Jeff did ALL of the work,,,,,,ALL and wouldn't let anyone clean up either.....

just amazing.....

about the day:

only 6 guys fishing! Gregg and I on my boat, Jeff and Vic on his porta bote, and MarkG and PeteL on a rental......

Gregg and I were fortunate to be able to launch at 5 am as we have the permit, and really the best fishing of the day was before the 7:30 rentals, it really was awfully slow there today......we did manage to boat 21 total Bass and Pickerel, mostly on T-rig worm and Slider Worm, with a few PopR toppies in the early going.....

21 may sound like a lot, but he had hour stretches or more without any fish so it kind of dragged....however, that is one of the great things about Wampus is that even on bad days you will catch fish.

nothing too big, Gregg did boat a 3 pound bass, of which he has a picture.......

the other groups will come on and tell you about their days Im sure.....

Mark G and Pete had to have had the toughest time as they were not able to launch at the early hour, being they had the rental boat, but they were banging fish in the boat also.

We had the pleasure of meeting Paul Mattie's lovely wife and gorgeous little daughter who joined us later for the barbecue.

what made today so really special, was the mix of people, in that you had 6 guys all of which just really love to fish and really love to be with their friends and the comraderie was so fresh and funny, that in these instances, the fishing is always the ice cream on top of the day....

it is refreshing to spend a day with people like this who have no other agenda in fishing other than that they enjoy sharing it with their friends......

I am forever grateful to have friends like this.......

John couldn`t have put it better . about the day or the company.
As always another successfull NYBASS get-together , this one courtesy of Jeff.

Unfotunately Mark and i could not get started till around
7am , but we did as much damage as possible. Had some nice bass and a huge pickeral. Most came on a t-rigged worm , with my largest off the lilly pads on the new King Rat. I believe Mark got 1 or 2 of his on a cut tail worm.

After a great shore lunch - Thanks again Jeff!!!!! it was back out for a little while , only this time Vic joined us. Not many more fish , and a whole lot of wind, so we called it a day . Really wanted to nail one more on the rat , just to prove to Vic it can be done , but the fish would not co-operate.

All in All , a fun day with a great group off guys. Can`t wait for Croton next Sunday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

repost :)

Bluebird skies for sure, but the wind did pick up as the day went on. John and I did get on early and manage a couple of fish on poppers. Brewers and T-rigged worms finished the day with 21 fish caught in all. Great to see Pete L, Mark G, Vic, and Jeff. Fished till about noon when we pulled off and Jeff severed up a terrific BBQ and we were joined by Paul M and his lovely wife and daughter. Truly a pleasure of a day.

Thumbs upJeff, Thanks Again!

Another great day with the folks at NYBass. While it was a small get-together, it really was a great time! Jeff throws a mean bar-b-q, and I hope this tradition continues each year. Getting on the water at 7:00am did cut Pete and I out of the primetime bite, but we still managed some quality fish.

Fishing with Pete is always a hoot, but today was extra special, as he got me back to fishing with the texas rigged plastic worm, which I hadn't done in ages. The t-rig was definitely the ticket, as the bass and pickerel were down in the water column near the outer weed edges. For whatever reason, the t-rig bites were savage, unlike the senko bite that has been sublte and mushy.

I do think the recent weather pattern has thrown off the fish, but that is another post.

Everytime I fish with NYBass folks, I feel more and more like a part of a community...and a great one at that. Fishing with people who love the friendship and commraderie as much as the fishing is truly special. So thanks again, Jeff! Another great Wampus bar-b-q...

Mark

Nice lm taken on Pete's new King Rat

My best lm caught on a
Texas rigged 7" power worm

Great Day

The key too wampus was getting out early. I think there was a good bite frome 4-5am that we came in for the tail end of. When I got out at 5am there was bait fish evereywhere. I caught a few bass right away. Vic got there at 5:30 and we still had a bite. By 9am the fishing SLOWED Down. Victor put on a T rigged worm and did some good fishing pulling a couple hogs out. We ended up with about 15 bass at 11am. All of mine where on senkos. Victor caught fish on topwater, Senkos, Worms.. Thanks for all who came I feel lucky to have such great friends as you guy's.
