Hurricane Isabelle

I was thinking that the approaching hurricane might be good for fishing. I hope to get out Wednesday or Thursday. Although Thursday will probably be too windy for the boat. Anybody every notice if the fish are more active before a big storm?

sudden barometric changes, yes, can definitely affect fishing...rapidly falling barometer is often good...

let's just hope nobody does anything foolish on Thur or FRI, if this baby does come to us......

The projected path

BJG,

As John said please don't be foolish and try fishing in that monster.

The "projected path of the storm after land fall has the center of the storm heading inland toward western and central PA, that maybe good news as it will not be as bad as Floyd but I still would not even think of tempting fate.

Remember this is only the possible track and it could turn and head towards NY, it is slowing down so it could be getting ready to turn too. Either way we all will be getting some heavy rain and wind, not something to mess with.

I have made plans to fish just about everynight because of this storm. On Maho, the bass go nuts right before those summer T storms go through, so I only hope that this "thing" triggers the same response - perhapsn in a bigger way!

Stay tuned!

Hey BJM, where do you work? I am in the same business as you and was wondering if we may know eachother? As far as Isabelle goes I will be finding out what the fishing is like after she comes through on Sunday.

I currently work at Laguardia arpt for DAL. I worked at Westchester Cty from 85-89 for Westair. I am hoping to get out thursday from the shore, and then maybe Saturday when it clears.

It won't be too bad, check out the NOAA forcast....

"FRIDAY...EAST GALES TO 35 KNOTS BECOMING SOUTHEAST. RAIN. WAVES 6 TO 9 FEET"

What is the problem? I suspect prefishing the BFL on Cayuga may even get a bit interesting on Friday!

They bit pretty good last night with Ttony. Lets see what happens tonight. The bite last night was smallies before dark on a Hopkins Spoons (verticle), then a spinnerbait at dusk, with a bunch of fatheads.

All in all a pretty good evening of fishing!

If you can fish it safely, GO FOR IT! When Hurricane Floyd came up the east coast in September of 1999, Nolan "Redeye" Edwards and I fished Lake Ontario east of Fair Haven as the storm passed up through NY and New England. Granted, the main part of the storm was well to our east, and we were the only ones smart (crazy?) enough to be out that day, but we slammed big smallies. Many were over 4 lbs and in relatively shallow (15') water. We boated well over 150 fish before finally being forced off the lake in early afternoon.

Let good sense prevail, but if your boat can handle the conditions, the rewards are well worth the soaking you'll take. If that forecast for E and SE winds holds true and I was up north now, I know where I'd be that day. That section of
Lake Ontario shoreline runs SW to NE so it is relatively protected during E and SE winds, especially in front of the bluffs.

Craig,

I fished those bluffs with Nolan a few years ago. What a great spot, not to mention, what a great guy Nolan is. I havn't spoken to him in a while, so if you do, please tell him that I said hello.

Pat,

You're right on both counts! Just got back last weekend from my last trip up north for this year. Had Nolan in the boat a couple of evenings and we worked those same bluff areas pretty hard.

He's doing quite well but has, at least for the time being, stopped tournament fishing. He expects to make his winter migration to TN sometime around Thanksgiving. I'll be sure to tell him you said hello next time I talk to him.

Craig
