crazy day on Kensico 9/23

Fished Kensico today with my good buddy Steve "Res Dog" Calnan and what a day it was. Constant downpours with the choppiest water I've seen this year. Because of the high winds we started working points with spinnerbaits and put 2 largies into the boat before the weather took a turn for the worst. Two foot waves started coming over the bow and we had two make an emergency dash to shore. We were taken on too much water too fast. We waited on shore as the storm passed through and after in calmed we headed out again, only to be driven to shore again when more bad weather came through. We emptied the boat turned it upside down and just waited till we finally felt the worst had passed. I took Steve to a great dropoff along a rock wall and we started beating it hard with jig-n-pigs. Steve cast right next to a submerged tree and BAM!!! He was into a big one! After a brief fight he got it to the boat and we both looked down and said "WOW". But the bass stuck his head out of the water and spit the jig out. Steve looked at me with a blank look and said "I just lost a 7lb'er". Well that's OK, it wasn't his big fish for the day!

We continued to work the jigs when later he got hit by a freight train. "I got another big one!!" he shouted. The bass ran under the boat and spun us 180 degrees. This one he got to the boat and pulled up a monster. We didn't have the digital scale today, but Steve always guesses the weight before he weighs them and he's usally acurate. He guessed the largie to be in the high seven's to low eights. The fish had tremdous girth and a huge mouth.

We picked up two more largemouths after that on jigs for a total of only 5 five in the boat. But well the trip just to catch that brute!

Holy crap! That's a monster! Sometimes you have to brave the rain to get a big fish. Looks like Steve really does know his reservoirs...

Max, we should get out together so one of us can catch the big fish!

Way-to battle mother nature.

That fish might be this years record for NYBASS.com.

Has anyone caught a bigger bass this year?

Steve apoligizes for not being able to contribute to the thread, he's in a transition period and does not have computer access right now.

Bullfrog, he told me it made it into his top ten as biggest largemouths ever caught. He's been fishing the reserviors for almost 30 years and I think his biggest came out of Croton years ago. I think his biggest bass was a 10 or 11 lb'er caught in
Florida.
