Basha-freezing!!!
Well, the weather sure
was nasty: only got into the low forties and a driving drizzle rain was falling
almost all the time, water temperature at the Bashakill
was 38 degrees, so we are talking cold man!! We knew it would be tough fishing
and it was however, we all made the best of it. I was on the boat with Scott E,
BobN ended up alone on his boat as CastAway had a last minute work call, and SrdFish and EFEderlein were on a
boat together.... I will let Scott or Bob come on and tell more about the Bashakill and what is involved to fish this swamp like
concoction and how you have to find the channel that runs through the swamp in
a winding way. however, the picture in this first post shows a view of this
water system with the weeds all the way knocked down, keep in mind that the
peripheries of the picture are often 6 to 12 inches deep!!! the channel, which
is usually only about 20 feet wide, runs from 5 feet to 12 feet or so
deep......in the next reply I will post pictures of BobN
who scored the best fish on the Road Kill Camo Snoozers tube!!

Next time I call in and
SHUT MY BEEPER OFF. It turned out being a Murphy's law day for me when I got
beeped at
Bob I'd like to thank you for the seat and I owe you a trip on any Harriman
lake of your choice this spring. Just let me know when.
I hope you guys liked the swamp despite the weather. Late April and May are the
best times to fish it in my opinion. Consider it an orientation trip for next
time. Hope you guys decide to fish it again sometime soon....I'll be calling in
sick next time!!!!!

pete, you would have loved it--thanks
to scott we finally hooked up with the main
channel--if you don't know where you are going you may get lost forever in an
everglades senerio of 6" to 2 ft deep waters
that lead to nowhere-thank god scott was there, he
found the channel and off we went- was a miserable day weather wise but beat
sitting at home and or working- we found the channel and proceeded to pummel it
with our favorite stuff--nada--then later in the day something
happened--perhaps a water temp change and john caught a nice perch--i'm talking pigs in the perch department--i managed 2 good perch and a decent bass--after that the
bite was lost??it was only a matter of perhaps 1/2
hour or so-we continued to do our best but that was that--along the way sdfish and efederlein showed up
and we kinda hung together for awhile--it was good to
have a bunch of guys at the launch/ramp to help take the boats out--truly a
wonderful thing--i really had a good day and look
forward to more of the same kind--this is a unique place to fish but you really
have to know what you are doing or have someone who knows the geography--bobn--------ps---scott thanks a lot---without you it would not have
happened!!!!!!!!!

Let
me try this again........#3
Well for one reason or
another either my computer or something does not seem to be cooperating, so
unfortunately I will only be giving the short story not the novel
Bob N. the wise elder of our group really showed us how it was done, both of
the perch he caught were just really nice and fat like those Western NY sumo
perch. John G came up with the first fish of the day though also with another
fine perch, but again I have to give it to Bob as no sooner as I turned around
after he released the second perch he caught I found my self turning around again
to see this guy crossing the eyes of another fish this time a fine specimen of
a Bashakill bass.
Way to go Bob!!!![]()
It was just a cold, damp, drizzly, dreary......ahhh
hell, you get the picture, it was a freezing and wet day at 45 by mid afternoon
and a water temp of 39 and in a few of the shallower places we had to cut
through some skim ice with the boat.
With all three boats out in the channel fishing we had the luck of having this
country's symbol of strength watching over us, perched in a tree about 400
yards away a big huge bald eagle. On the way back to the launch he gave us a
brilliant demonstration of his strength and wing span, WOW what a bird!!!
All in all it was a good day and was glad to meet these fine gentlemen known to
us as Bobn, SRDFish and EF,
lets do it again soon....on a warmer day though!!!

artic smashing through the ice--bobn
