the fish, the outdoors, a
day away, good friends.
i like the getting away, and getting outdoors part.
2 hours on a small pond, no other boats, no other people, a hawk overhead, a
few frogs croaking, clear water watching the fish hit, nightfall and a light
breeze as you load the boat, and take away a few pictures from the trip!!

AHHHHHHH
Did I mention SUNSETS
Posted by paridiseblue on 2002 PM:
the time spent thinking
clearly. the way the wind blows the cattails back and forth. the sunrises, the
sunsets, the sound of a bullfrog croaking, the total quiet of the morning. the
way a bad day can be turned around by a remarkable site. seeing a bald eagle
glide down into the water and come back with a fish[ my personal favorite ever]
the way the water reflects the moon at night. no phones, traffic or hassles. just
me and some freinds relaxing on the water. oh and
I LOVE THE SMELL OF TWO-CYCLE IN THE MORNING! IT SMELLS LIKE.....VICTORY

I love the nature aspect
of fishing too......But
What I really enjoy is detecting that ever so subtle bite,
the satisfaction of setting the hook just right,
the thrill of playing and landing a haug bass......

when i am bass fishing, i just cant get over that feeling of the bite. Tensing up the muscles and setting the hook into a big bass, then seeing it sky-rocket. It may all happen in 1/2 second, but i just love it.

Don`t know what else i
can add!!!! Except for the friends you
meet thru NYBASS!!! I love the solitude when out by yourself ,
but other times it`s good to have the company that appreciates it as much as
you do!!!
Also doen`t hurt to have a witness when a monster bass breaks off at the boat.
Scott - how about when that bass does a taildance across that flat surface!!!

far too difficult to
answer! But I'll give you one small part of the overall equation.
It's late summer, early morning in the Adirondacks, the air temp and water temp. are creating a thick fog
perhaps up to dozens of feet off the water. You don't worry about where your
going in the limited visability because you know every inch of the lake and in
the deafening silence you can hear everything. It's chilly enough to wear a
sweatsirt, but you have a small thermos full of coffee to take off the chill.
There is a looming hint of daybreak.
Gliding along slowly in a canoe casting away, searching for that unforgetable
fish the sounds of the resident loons are singing their wake up call. You
wonder if your the only one awake to enjoy the silence, beauty ... peace.
A few nice fish later, including some of those big toothy critters, you return
home to a silent trusting friend who's been waiting for you at the dock.
Pulling the canoe up tight, your friend and you enjoy looking over the water at
the looming mountains, finishing your coffee. As his big dog eyes look up at
you, you think its time to get breakfast going, everyone will be awake soon.
Man what a morning they all missed!
Walking up the hill, you wonder -- does it get any better then this?

The best thing I like
about fishing is the unknown. What I mean is you throw the line out and just
never know for sure what you will catch. Even if you are targeting one type of
fish you just never know. The feeling of losing a fish just makes me cast that
many times more.
And I do love the fresh crisp air, being up early in the morning to enjoy
nothing but a relaxing time. Can't beat the stress relief. And even though I
love to hunt you don't have to avoid the idiots hunting that toss lead in all
directions and cause a safety concern. Fishing is safe that is unless you pike
fish with me. ![]()

I love the nature and quiet, when I go the waters edge and watch the swans, geese and ducks gliding along I get a very happy feeling, seeing fish jump to get some breakfast is great nothing like the sound of a big splash. One time I was a few feet from shore and a doe and fawn came up for a drink I have to say it was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. But there is nothing like the feel of a catching a fish.

All those beautiful
sights and sounds already mentioned. The nature I've seen includes:
Watching an osprey hunt and catch a fish, bring it to a dead tree and tear it
up and start eating it, then fly away with it.
Beaver of every size, felling trees, swimming under the canoe, eating, slapping
their tails.
Turtles of every description including a huge snapper this year, 3 feet from
us. You should have seen the claws!
Most unusual: We saw an overhanging branch wiggling different than with birds.
Canoed over to investigate and it was a ball of baby snakes., must have been 20
of them. Always enjoy watching snakes swimming. Once saw one disappear via a
huge bass hit.
Skunks, coons, herons, ducks, geese, a family of swans. You get all that and
fish, too? What a life!
Posted by jpfsurf on 2002 AM:
Man I love the fog also, good point ADK.The fog on an early crisp morning, the bite does'nt even have to be on.The fog is just awesome, everywhere you go looks like fish heaven. If the bite is on, even better.
Posted by earthworm77 on 2002 AM:
I love that nature stuff too. Sunsets and sunrise,Deer crossing a stream, birds. The smells of trees and flowers......but who do you think you are kidding, toss a 1/4oz jig n pig to a laydown, get a tick and set the hook into a 6lber....thats what keeps me going back.

what i really like is just getting away from everything and not have to think about
work or the bills etc. and when i'm on the water i just go and explore new
fishing area's. i just let go!!!!!

Most of the things I
enjoy about fishing have already been mentioned.. I love waking up early and
seeing the fog on the lake and on the mountains.. The water as calm as glass
and the only thing breaking it is your boat and loons or ducks swimming behind
you as you fish.. Just the silence of being on the water and no other boats or
people are anywhere around.. No humming of jetskis or an outboard motor.. Most
always fishing at Sacandaga I am the only one out on the part of the lake I
have a house on and even though I usually don't catch fish(stupid lake is so
big and hard to find the fish) I enjoy being out there with mother nature! IT'S
AWESOME!

Here's the fog I was talking about! (and the mountain and orangy sky from the
sun rising)

wow, that is a nice pic,
'daga. It makes me think back to when my dad was into tournament fishing, and
we would go out there early in the morning and prefish all day. God, the
memories!
Ok, i was reminded of what fishing means to me today. I was fishing my usually
hot pond in Halfmoon, and the fishing was nice and slow. My father had just
called me, and asked me to catch a big one for him. No longer did i put the
phone in my pocket, than my weightless lizard had a lightess nudge of a hit. I
set the hook, expecting to get half a lizard. NOPE, the fish ran me out about
15 yards of 12lb test, then jumped, and i just about sh*t myslef. A nice war of
tugs with the fish and he was mine. I went to snap a pic with a dead digital
camera, then weighed him. 5.3 lbs! - for this tiny pond, that fish is an
absolute monster! I couldnt beleive how excited my dad was when i called him
back.
Lance
(PS: that adds to my 6 fish total of lm bass 5lbs+ for the season!!, b4 this
year, i had only caught a 4.7 lmb as my biggest)

ADKBass, Just wondering
what kind of dog you have? That is my dream(when I get older and have my own
house and everything) to have a dog that will just lay on the lawn all
afternoon even without a fence and not having to worry about it running away..
A dog you can take down on the dock in the morning and that will wait on the dock
for you to return.......... (or was it just a thought? lol)
Thanks TTYL

Scott - Its still a leg ![]()
Its alright though. Still a fair amount of pain but the healing seems to be
going ok. 3 weeks from today is the first target date for this cast to come
off. If not in 3 weeks then 5 weeks is the target date. Still will have to
learn to walk and will need a cane or walker. Expected "full"
recovery date still stands at 11/30/02.
Have not been fishing since the accident. Did go and shoot some pigeons this
weekend though. Man was it nice to finally get out and do something.
Take care-
Jon

Gr8,
105 pounds of solid Black Lab. Most amazing dog I have ever owned.
Only problem is, if I go shore fishing with him all he wants to do is swim! ![]()
Also, have a hard time getting him in and out of a canoe, put he's getting
better -- as I get wetter!

Scott - was not my idea
on the date. The Dr picked it out. Who knows how he came about 11/30? You got
me. The Dr is very cryptic in what he says. I asked him if it were normal to
not have feeling in the bottom of my foot. His answer "everyone responds
differantly to surgery " If you think about that, that is no answer at
all. I then asked will I get the feeling back in the foot? You guessed it the
very same answer as before. The doctor was always consistant with "the
screw must stay in your foot" then last time I went in he all of a sudden
says a surgery must happen to take the screw out. I said where did this idea
come from Doc and he said I have thought the screw will need to come out all
along. Sorry I payed close attention and he Never said that once.
My answer now is I am getting a sceond opinion and I will grill the new doctor
to see what is best on the screw.
One other interesting tangent I found out after the fact. My current doctor has
been sued for malpractice 3 times and has settled twice and was found gulity
once. And as we speak he has another charge against him.
To say I am skeptical on his word and work is a understatement.
But on the other hand I am still happy just to be alive.
Take it easy-
Jon
