What Does NYBASS.COM mean to you?

i replied to one of robJ's posts on another thread regarding the nature of NYBASS and it made me want to start this topic... i hope i am not opening up a can of $enkos with this...i just thought it might be interesting to hear what other members think about this place: why you like it here and what makes you come back...i don't mean to get all mushy, but sometimes things get out of focus and there needs to be a little reaffirmation of why this place works so well... of course many members are only interested in the fishing info, which is fine!...no one has to contribute anything... but it is obvious that the community here is also important to many...it's interesting how exchanges on the internet can so easily turn sour with one misunderstanding of a post or a reply that is ambiguous or not carefully worded...that is the nature of a bulletin board!... i have had several tensions with other members and they have always worked themselves out with a phone call or time on the water... i was speaking with Northbass yesterday about this point and it was extremely gratifying to iron out some misunderstandings between us... of course we all have our opinions on things and not everyone is going to get along all the time, but there is nothing wrong in "attempting" to create a community that strives for the friendship and respect of all members...of course this is an unattainable ideal, but having that objective in mind will ultimately lead us to a nicer place; which is what NYBASS means to me....i enjoy the fishing information...it is a creative outlet for me being the senior editor of NYBASS ILLUSTRATED... but most of all i appreciate the friendships i have made and will continue to make because it just makes me happy and it's what i want to do....so there!...maybe i make it a bigger part of my life than most, but it is what i enjoy and it works for me.

anyone else??

I came here to learn about fishing and come away with a new group of friends. Truly I have learned volumes of fishing info and have meet and fished with some great people. To me fishing is a hobby and I have had many hobbies in my life but this has been the best one because of the people I have found to share it with.

i had a big problem with message boards. most of the time people who are on it are there to toot there own horn or be mean. i sat and was one of the nameless who watched this site. i didn't see any of that. it made me register and want to share. think about it. where better to be a better ny fisherman then with people who fish in NY. i love reading articles about stick marsh, fork, castic and rayburn but they only help to a degree. i'd rather hear about the hudson, mohawk, and other waters.

i went fishing today with quantumman, 2 weeks ago i did not even know him. we went out and had a slow day[ i skunked] and it didn't matter. we had a great time and i have a new fishing buddy in the area. ny bass has taught me more about ny water, and teqniques then 15 magazines could. ask someone about line get ten different lines people like. for the members of this board my # is 845-888-0769 call whenever you need me. for the makers of this site, i'll state it again whatever you need help on.

NYBASS= my favorite fishing site

NY Bass has become an integral part of my lifestyle. If that sounds as if I have nothing better to do, it's not meant to. I work 47 1/2 hours a week and travel 1 1/2 hours each way to and from my job as a robotic technician. By the time we eat clean up and take out the dog I'm lucky if I have two hours to relax before getting to bed each night. I get five hours sleep if everything goes right. The weekends are filled with shopping and working around the house and occasionally if I am lucky I actually get a day of fishing in. So far this year I have managed to get out six times.

I only relate this because if not for the NY Bass board my relaxation time would be much less interesting. I am able to check the board several times a day at work and it gives me things to think about that breaks up the tedium of the daily grind. In the few hours of free time during my evenings it gives me pleasure to read of the exploits of the other members. I must admit that at times I feel envious at the amount of free time some of our members have to be out on the water but at the same time their posts give me at times the feeling of being there with them and I get a lot of enjoyment from the information given. I have learned more from this terrific group of men and women than I could ever have in a lifetime of reading and trial and error.

I have been priviledged to fish with several of the board members and have formed personal friendships because of being a member of this board.

It may sound as if I have a boring life but believe me if not for the NY Bass board my life on line and off would be a whole lot less interesting than it is.

My personal thanks and graditude to Frank and especially to John G. for creating and maintaining this little bass fishing oasis in a desert of idiocy that is the world today

For me it's simple. I like to fish. I enjoy exchanging information with other people who like to fish. If I make a few new friends in the process (and I have) that's a bonus. The couple of get togethers I've been to have been a blast, another bonus.

As for the arguments that occasionally develop here, I try not to get involved.

Hats off to John, Frank, and all the staff at NYBASS for maintaining a degree of sanity in a world that sometimes seems to lack it.

I find NYBass to be a great place for info and I have used alot of the suggestions. I do spew some crap and Then I read it after I post it and delete it cause I don't know what I am talking about, I find myself as a want to be a part of the crowd type by agreeing with things I have no idea what's being talked about. I just thought I would come clean since now being unemployed I will be working weekends at City lumber in manhatten driving a truck my brother in law is the manager there and as far as the weekdays go I will job hunting....................

By the way you guys and gals are a great bunch of people.

It has become part of my fishing life. And fishing is certainly my favorite hobbie/pastime.
Genuinly good people, you see it, hear it and feel it with Birthday announcements, New baby announcements, sharing of good news and bad. The well wishes when someone is sick or injured. The encouragement when a fellow NYBASS'r is slumping....

You really hear it loud and clear when you listen to the cheers for Barry's famous fish..... you see it in all the pictures of various outings... this is what quality friendships are made of.....friendships you can make right here.

and last but not least you learn and share the love of fishing and all that goes with it with some of the best representatives of this sport.....

it aint mushy.......its real and we all feel it.

TalkingWhat NYBass means to me......Oh boy this should be a long one

When I first found NYBass it was in its infancy with just a few members and I lurked for a while like most members have I'm sure. This guy Frank J the webmaster of the site seemed to be a decent guy and knew a thing or two about fishing and then there was this other guy Dr. Bass, I had a feeling this guy was nothing but trouble but was still drawn to answering a few questions someone had about a lake in Orange County. This guy Dr. Bass soon became a very good friend and we fished together for the first time on Lake Sebago in Harriman State Park, the fishing stunk that day but the company was great.

I was fresh out of the AOL fishing chatrooms then and a father of an infant son who was to young to take fishing and his mom worked nights so after the child was asleep, this new dad was off to the internet to get his virtual fishing fix and here I still am, a new father again busy with helping take care of another newborn son, talk about history repeating itself!!!

Now although I have not spent much time here lately and my duties as the NYbass news reporter I feel have been neglecting but I hope to resume my duties and my regular postings soon, I am starting to get my creativity back and I have been getting out to do a little fishing again. Although I can not check in here as much as I would like to right now because this computer is about as slow as $#!+, (sorry it is not mine but I hope to have that settled in about a month or so) I will always be here, this is my home on the internet whether I am in NY or not (not seems to be what is going to happen, I might be PA bound).

I am proud of NYBass and I am proud of the members here as well as proud to call all here my friends.

so many people have said exactly what i feel, i will make this short. Plain and simple - there is no better place to learn and gain knowledge that helps me, a NY fisherman. Everyone here is interested in helping everyone else and that is not something that i have found on any other fishing forums. I want to thank you all for that.

NYbass means to me a place that I have gotten to meet alot of nice people and have learned things along the way and I just want to say that with John G and Frank J and the rest of the members this board has not only become a place to share information but it has also become kind of an extended family.

Kudos to all.

Most of the information I have learned about bassfishing came from this site. It was only 3 years ago when I stumbled upon this site searching for information about Sacandaga and started asking the most basic beginner questions. I didn't even have a tackle box for bassing yet and sure enough the members here helped me put together a list of tackle that I should buy when I went to BPS in Florida. 3 years later I now have a tackle bag filled with bass lures, about 6 rod and reel combos and have spent most of my pay checks toward fishing. If it wasn't for NYBASS I probably wouldn't be into fishing at all! And although I haven't fished with any of the guys from nybass I enjoyed meeting and talking with some of you at the Rockland Show this year and enjoy talking to you over AIM/AOL/EMAIL/ETC. and I can't wait to get on the water with you!

Dustin

P.S Most of the time when I'm on the computer I am here reading and responding to posts and never do I get bored by the posts, questions, discussions, etc. that we have here!

KEEP IT UP!

AND
Thanks John G and Frank J. for making this all possible!

Thumbs upfound nybass by accident......

i was browsing the 1 billion 4 hundred 13 thousand 783 internet domains for answers to some questions i had pertainning to a specific lake and or its where abouts and i stumbled upon nybass,i opened it up and immediately book marked it for a later use,an hour later i was a member and have been ever since,i cant wait to get home and do the 3 esses then eat and check out the hot topics on the boards,i also love to give advice and help those who are less fortunate, many people take for granted a simple day out on the lake with quality rods, reels, boats, and tackle, while there a millions of folk who cant afford a simple bamboo rod,if i can help just one person and make them happy,i have accomplished what i set out to achieve,of course the more the merrier, and thats why im here, thats what i love about this place, chances are ,everyday ,hour,or minute, someone may need help,i cant help everyone, but if i cant help you,im sure someone here can,,keep up the great work,my 1 year anniversary is comming up as member here in 350 days or so,,i'll be here for it!

I'm kind of a "half-good fisherman". If this were golf (yech), I'd say my handicap is about 10. I've been canoe fishing for 20 years, raising each of my four kids bass fishing one-at-a-time with Dad in the canoe. Those times are priceless and beyond description. I'm mostly self-taught, but pretty successful overall.
I've been recovering from an illness this summer and have more opportunity to fish than ever before. I found nybass via an internet search. The site is friendly, informative and fun. There are some REALLY talented fisherman contributing. The combination of time to fish and improving skills (thanks to y'all) has resulted in an unbelievably successful summer. I've caught about 75 LMB in the last three weeks, my kids another 20. I had never heard of Senko and am enjoying it, but still caught most of the bass on other lures. (5 today on a broken-back Rapala vs. 1 on Senko). I'm starting to get serious about really improving and look to this site for knowledge, wisdom and good sportsmanship.
There are only two kinds of fishing. Good fishing and great fishing. Great fishing is when you actually catch one.

I appreciate the humor as well as the sincerity. You can learn about fishing techniques and tackle from all over the net and books and TV. But what you don't get there is the way that it is said. From the well thought, well written response to the, "I really like girls and beer" response. I think it's great to be able to come up with an idea or thought and share it with others. I know that I've been out fishing in places over the years and seen others catching fish that day and when I asked them what they were using they were less than cordial. That doesn't happen here. Here people are more than happy to help a guy out.
Thanks to this site I've gone as far as calling another fisherman over to try the spot I just caught a fish from. Nuts right. I didn't think so. I figured that's what an NYBass guy would do...
Oh yeah I forgot, I LIKE GIRLS AND BEER!
