Jazz, rock, alternative, classical, blues; basically anything but country! I will admit to having several cd's with parental warnings which I hide from my kids ( Beasties, Rage, etc).

ADK, if you like Irish music ( and let's face it, who could NOT like something Irish-adult beverage consumption, etc), are you familiar with the Saw Doctors? I love their music, but it is hard to find.

Ex-DJ here, I used to spin records in highschool and some dance clubs in the Philippines. 80's music, new wave e.g. Devo, B-52-s, The Clash, Depeche Mode, New Order. Still listen to 'em once in a while. Then when I moved to New York, 1991, house music (anybody in this board knows this..???..LOL) was big in underground clubs.

For my listening pleasure, smooth jazz, e.g. Pat Metheny, Peter White.. to calm my nerves. But Im pretty open to anything right now, except for rap and country.

U2's latest CD is still on my changer. Infectiousss.....

Not for me....First album I brought (tells you how young I'm not) was a B.T.O. in 7th grade. KISS was big w/ me for a while...Moved on to more classic heavy stuff Led Zep, JIMI, Deep Purple...Then old genesis w/ Peter Gaberial, Floyd..Then I found the best group out there YES...not the new stuff, anything done in the 70's...real music...
Any of you L.I. guys follow the Good Rats??? I have 3 of their albums and seen them many times...great bar band!!!!!
Keep listening.................

Well, like most music lovers, I can listen to (tolerate) just about anything for a period of time. But MY choice of music is METAL!!! Yes folks, I am a metalhead.

On the top of the list of bands for me is Savatage. I got turned on to them about 12 years ago at college, and have been hooked ever since. Too bad they never made it "bigtime", but sometimes that isn't a good thing anyway. Of their dozen or more albums, I can usually find one that fits my mood

A very close second has to be Metallica. I have been a fan of theirs since '86, although they were better as a underground band before Justice.

And AC/DC rounds out the top 3 for me, especially the Bon Scott years which I feel were their best years.

If it has a screaming distorted guitar, I probably like it

Thumbs upGREAT TOPIC!!!

Like Joe Pido, I used to DJ professionally, and I still have most of my vinyl and, of course, my Technics SL-1200 turntables and Numark mixer. I DJ'd for a club in Tucson, Arizona for about a year back in '91. Did a lot of remix work back then, too. Also did a ton of weddings and functions. Helluva time.

I love all kinds of music, but my greatest affinity is for the 80's as that was the time of my teenage years, and music meant so much to me at that time.

Today, my favorite is still the 80's Pop/Rock for me, but I listen to all genres of modern music. Country to Classical. Metal to Alternative Rock. Folk to World Music. I'll even let some rap in once in awhile. Some of today's crossover music incorporating rock with hip-hop style lyrics is awesome (such as
Linkin Park and Trik Turner). I'm especially fond of Jazz, old and new, big band to smooth. In fact, if you have a high speed internet connection, I'd greatly suggest listening to the www.smoothjazz.com and hear the great quality of internet radio at 128kbps.

I guess, like foods with me, there's probably little music that I cannot palette.

i love reggae...burning spear, jimmy cliff, dennis brown, peter tosh, shabba ranks and marley are my favorites

elvis is great...especially the vegas years...he was a fat mess and couldn't remember the lyrics, but his voice was on... crooners in general interest me...like sinatra, engelbert, perry como, tom jones

i also dig funk...disco too when there's dancing going on...

some country like willie nelson, johnny cash but not much

i guess i like most popular music...some of the rock that came out of the 90's...nirvana, pearl jam... and some of the newer rock is good, except for the whiny crap like "my life is full of pain... the pain of living makes me want to stop the pain" yada yada yada

Noel I do like Savatage and have some of the Trans Siberian stuff on my hard drive. I should buy one of there cds. What do you suggest . As for DT check out Images and Words or Awake. These are nice starter cds for people wanting to experience the DREAM!

Gregg, I love closet 70s Fusion Jazz Fans.

Never heard of Stuff. Sounds interesting. I have seen alot of 70s jazz bands in my day-- Mangione twice, Ponty twice, Weather Report, Lenny White, Cobham ( got hit by a drum stick), Pat Metheny ( actually fell aslleep), Allan Holdsworth. Dont listen to it as much as I used to but still love it.

Here is another couple of bands which live in obscurity.
Gentle Giant and Crack the Sky.

You are the 3rd person in about 6 months to recommend Dream Theater to me. I guess I will have to investigate! Thanks for the recommendation of what to start out with.

What are you looking for, a Trans Siberian album, or
Sava album??? I only have one TSO album, and it is "Christmas Eve and Other Stories". Pretty cool stuff on it. If you are looking for a Sava album, they are known for "Hall of the Mountain King", and was also my first one. I have also grown attached to "The Wake of Magellan" over the years. They have two totally seperate era's with different lead singers, the early Jon Oliva years, then later with the Zak Stevens years. They just aquired a different lead less than a year ago, and I am very much looking forward to the Damond Jiniya years!

FAVORITE MUSIC ??

Well, there's only one thing I love more than fishing and that's music.
I play drums-percussion, guitar, bass (not to be confused with the fish) and dabble with the keyboard. Spent a lot of nights on stage back in the mid to late 70's - early 80's
A question for all you guys.
Do you remember the Winters Brothers Band out of
Nashville Tenn ?
If you ever saw Charlie Daniels during the that time, the Winters Brothers and (WBB)
Was Charlies long time opening act.
Anyone remember them ?

For me, it all started with the Beatles and they'll always be the base of what I do musically although as I grew up, I heard some pretty good stuff from Harry Nilsson, Lee Micheals, Jeff Beck and Canned heat.
Then this buddy of mine said "ya gotta hear this band from
San Francisco called Santana".
That's when I reaized that I wanted to play guitar and then after listening to them for a while, I heard all of that awsome drum and percussion work and put that into the mix of what I wanted to do.
Life goes on and along came Southern Rock and blues and I've been there ever since.
I love Southern Rock, Blues, Classic rock and of course the Beatles.
I listen to vinyl instead of cassettes and CD's unless I'm on the road.
I could start listing favorites and influences but it would blow out the site so i'll just list a few.
Beatles, Badfinger, Peter Frampton (solo and with Humble Pie). Santana, Ronnie Montrose & Gamma featuring a young Sammy Haggar on vocals, Deep Purple (pre 82). Rainbow with Hometown boy, Ronnie James Dio and Graham Bonnet, Wings, The Babys, Journey and Early Aerosmith.
Blues...Stevie Ray, John Mayall, Leon Russel, Gary Moore,
Bonnie Raitt, Gatemouth Brown, and Walter Trout.
The South....Charlie Daniels, Allman Bros (Then and now), Marshall Tucker, Grinderswitch, The Outlaws, Elvin Bishop, Stillwater, Early ZZ Top, Skynyrd and of course,......... ......The Winters brothers band.
That's just a few of my favorites but you got me going now !

The music is good. Classic rock from the 60's, 70's & 80's with Seager, Eagles, Marshal Tucker, Stones, Blues Brother etc. We are playing at Hogan's Goat on
Montauk Highway in Bay Shore from 8 p.m. to midnight. Come see me make a bigger fool of myself on stage than I do on TV
