Not that anyone cares, but....

for those of you who've been out fishing with me over the years, you are no doubt aware of the general "uglyness" of my boat. For those who have not seen it, suffice it to say that one of our better known NYBASS members nicknamed it "The Beast", a name, sadly, that stuck. While she's not much to look at, she's great to fish out of. (Remember that girl in high school who was sort of ugly but great in the sack? Same thing.)

Well, a few weeks back, RobJ and SeaJack joined me for a day on Honeoye and Rob surprised me with a gorgeous set of decals for my boat. Rob's really good at all thing computer/graphic in case you didn't know, and he made up these decals with my boats name, done in black script. They're sweet. Well, I can't just put these decals an the boat since it's got these god awfull blue pinstripes on the side and some other lettering above it, so I realize it's time to give the beast a facelift.

To make a long story short, I've been busting my butt for the last few nights after work removing the pinstripes and lettering, (they came of pretty easy with a razor and heat gun, but the adhesive had other ideas). Then I rubbed it down by hand with some deoxidizer. Then I rubbed it down with some fiberglass polish. Tonight I'll put on a few coats of wax, and she'll be just about finished.

By now you're wondering why in the hell I'm writing this (and wondering even more why you're still reading it), so I'll get to the point. After I finished up polishing one side of the boat last night, I grabbed one of Rob's decals and but it on. Wow! what a difference! The solid white boat with the black script makes my rig look 100 percent better. I couldn't believe it.

I am very happy. So thanks RobJ for such a nice, unexpected gift, and thanks for giving me the kick start I needed to do something with the boat other then just fish out of it (and sit in it drinking beer when it's in the driveway).

Such nice people here on NYBASS. Very impressive.

Fred

ps: On the day Rob brought the nice decals as a gift, Seajack brought nothing but a bag of salt and vinegar potato chips that he KNOWS I can't stand. All day long he'd grap a handfull, hold the bag towards me and ask "want some" with that snide little smile of his. So there are a few bad seeds here.

How Sweet!

Rob, what a great guy! I can't wait to see a picture of the new lettering...

Fred, congratulations on choosing a name that you actually CAN display without weathering evil looks from others' at the launch!!! For those of you who never had the opportunity to fish from Fred's old boat, it was called "Doggy Style"....

Posted by OnceBitten on 2002 AM:

WHOA!

I never said I changed the name!

My boat is now solid white with "Doggy Style" proudly written down the side in beautiful, black script!

Dang, it isn't the boat that I thought was ulgy. Now, if Rob J has something for the boats captian, we would be all set....

I second (or 3rd, 4th, whatever) the statement that Rob J is quite a guy. He also did some custom graphics on my Ranger, they look awesome! When you get past they flyin spooks he ain't too shabby!

Fred,

So what you're saying is you want me to bring Salt and Vinegar chips for Sunday?

Maybe I can do a little better this time. Since Rob's gift was work related, what sort of drugs do you want? I'll see if I can't hook you up yet.

I'll pass on the drugs, but thanks for the offer. But since your a Pharmacist, can you get me a discount on condoms? That would save me some bucks and keep all my bitches happy.

I'll snap a pic or two this weekend and post them, or rather have someone post them who has a clue. Can you believe I slid out of work a little early yesterday to finish the boat and an hour into it, it started raining and never let up. Oh well, all I've got to do is wax it and put the side bunks back on the trailer. I'll do it this morning after I finish work. (You can tell how hard I'm working, huh?)

Seth, calling me ugly won't bother me. I know you really envy my "middle aged, slightly overweight, bald man look". You've seen how the women react to me, like moth's to a flame. LOL!

Fred, they say that when a man is balding in the front , he is a thinker.....when a man is balding in the back, he is a lover....and when a man is balding in the front AND back,,,,he THINKS he is a LOVER! LOL........ JOHN G

Well, I shave my head. That means I'm too cheap to spend $6.50 on a haircut. I rather spend it on soft plastics.

Once Bitten

One of the best bass fisherman I know has a boat that looks like a "wolverine" used it as a fall nesting site. The carpet is frayed and torn, in fact I am not sure you could call it carpet anymore.

The finish, well its so dull and chipped, I dont know if you could tell what color it is or was for that matter. The boat is an 18 ' 1983 Hydra-Sport with a 150 Mercury that looks like it should be on the back of "Batmans Boat".

The live wells no longer work, so they are now self contained with a portable aireator attached. The gauges in the dash havent worked in year, in fact there are a few missing. The only things that are new is a 72 pound thrust trolling motor and the trailer.

The fisherman is what makes this boat special. He is one of a kind. The guy can catch fish out of a bath tub.

SmileI don't know how I missed this thread, but...

Fred, you are very welcome. I thought you would get a kick out of that. Your boat is truly a one and only!

Thanks for the nice comments, everyone. Words cannot really describe how much I have greatly enjoyed the meeting of so many of you through this site, all over the state.

Tight Lines...
